Face Friday: Physicians Formula Launch

pf-face-thIt’s Friday and that means it’s time for another face. This one is actually similar but more ramped up than last weeks face, which was more minimalistic, and was what I used to go to the launch of Physicians Formula on Wednesday evening. I was looking for something that wouldn’t really move, but was still light. Inevitably some of my face did move a little, but the heat in the room was unreal!

Face Friday: New Product Face

ff-newproducts-thThere’s a box of new products sitting next to me, and it’s always getting filled up with different bits and pieces. Things I’ve bought, things I’ve won, things I’ve been given to try out, you get the idea. So, today, for Face Friday, I’m doing a new product face, to try and work through a few of them and give them a whirl.

Products used:

Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe Cosmetics Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush) I’m rather impressed by this. Normally, when I see something labelled beige I skip right over this in favour of its sister that says milk bottle. However, as I didn’t have a choice in shade I gave it a whirl and it matches my skin extremely well, if slightly more yellow than I want. It also sinks in well and leave my skin looking bare faced but better.

Blush: NYC Cheek Glow (649 – Prospect Park Rose) This is really quite sheer, but buildable if you so wish. It does, as the name suggests, leave a glow on your cheeks, again bare faced but better.

Bronzer: Wet n Wild Coloricon Bronzer (E740 – Bikini Contest) I normally use its sister (Ticket To Brazil) for contouring, but here used it all over the face to give a bit more of a sunkissed look. A light hand is required though, or you will, like I did, have to go back and start again.

Brows: Maybelline Brow Drama (Medium Brown) The only not new item on this face, but only because I have no new brow items to try out. You know my views on this.

Shadow: butter LONDON Wink Cream Eye Shadow (Sun Kiss) This comes in a tube with an applicator like a liquid lipstick. It is quite wet and spreads about well, but dries solid. The colour here doesn’t work as a shadow on its own, but my intention was to use its subtle shimmer to just brighten the eyes, and it works for that.

Mascara: Rimmel ScandalEyes by Kate Mascara (004 Eye Rocks Jet Black) The funky “broken heart” shaped wand looks weird, but its dense bristles helped the mascara to glide on nicely, adding length and volume.

Lipstick: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet (05 Olé Flamingo) The only item that is meant to look made up on the face, this works perfectly to deliver that stand out feature. It is rich, creamy, and while it dries to a matte finish, it at no point felt drying on my lips (though I had put on a good dose of lip balm shortly before) I think I’m in love with this.

And the finished look goes something like this…

I did have to up the exposure of the image in photoshop a little, to try and bring the colours back to what they look like in real life, as the light was playing with the camera a little. That said, I am really happy with how the pared back, natural features of the face allow the lips to be the stand out in the look. It did not need anything else or it would have looked overdone.

What do you think? Does it inspire you to try out anything new? Let me know.

Note: Products are a mixture of shop bought, won and items for review.

Tried Tuesday: Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Colour

tt-WnW-thIt’s like the search for the holy grail, well for lips anyway. All I want is a lipstick with great colour, that stays put through eating, drinking, and, eh, other activities, and that doesn’t destroy my lips in the process. Is that too much to ask? I think not. Maybe I’ll have luck with this Megalast Liquid Lip Colour by Wet n Wild.

The colour we’re looking at here is Raisin’ the Roof. It looks like a deep pink/berry in the tube, and according to Wet n Wild last up to 8 hours and are completely transfer proof, while moisturising at the same time. This is due to Elastisilk technology that combines flexible colour and silky pigments that move with the lips.

The applicator is nice without being anything particularly special, holding a fair amount of product without being overloaded and goes nicely on to the lips, though in the case of Raisin’ the Roof, it does apply quite purple. I wasn’t quite expecting it to be so dark, looking at the tube, but it is still a nice, rich colour, which would probably be better suited to autumn lips.

wnw-lipsAnd this is what it looks like on the lips. It feels slightly strange as it dries on the lips, and bonds both to the lips and itself a little, but when it dries it DOES NOT MOVE! When removing it I had to have a bit of a go at it, and it didn’t wipe away. It kind of peeled away in bits. It also seemed to show up every single line on my lips. I’m not entirely sure if it is just my lips, or this showing everything up, so I will have to investigate further. I probably won’t be trying with this colour though, not for a few months. There are some nice coral and pink shades available too (13 in total) so I might just pick up a more summery shade to try again.

For now though the jury is out. I can’t say as it stands that this is everything I’ve been looking for. The colour payoff is amazing, and it doesn’t budge once it sticks on there, but I’m not entirely sure about not drying out my lips. I’ll have to try a couple more times and see.

Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Colour is €4.69, and is available from Dunnes Stores, some Penneys and pharmacies nationwide.

What do you think of the Wet n Wild lip range? Have you found your holy grail, go nowhere lip product? Please do share your experiences.

Manicure Monday: Rich & Decadent

mm-decadantthToday’s mani was inspired by a request from Amy from Red Lips; Red Hair, who responded to my request on Twitter for ideas. She suggested purple and gold, and Amy, you got it!

This was simplicity itself. A straight purple on 4 nails, and the fifth I did from a gold glitter top coat. I was tempted to go with purple on all 5, with a single coat of glitter as an accent, but hey, if you’re going to bling it up, really go for it. No half measures allowed with bling!

The colours used were Wet n Wild Eggplant Frost, from their Wild Shine range, and a No. 7 gold glitter top coat, which I got as part of a Christmas set in January.

This was also my first time using Eggplant Frost, and I’m already in love with the colour. It’s gorgeous, deep, and applied so easily. Must get more!

What do you think? Is this mani rich and decadent, or is it getting too bright to be wearing such deep colours? I may break out much lighter, brighter ones for next week.

Something Else Saturday: Recent Purchases – Penneys, Boots, Lush & Parfois

SES-HaulthumbIt’s the weekend, the sun is shining, and it’s time for another Something Else Saturday. Last week I introduced you to Rascal, the one eyed psycho cat. This week, I’m showing you the bits and pieces I’ve bought recently.

I went in to Penneys for two things. A white vest (not pictured – it’s boring) and the Wet n Wild stand. I admit, I had picked out what I wanted from the stand before I even went to Penneys, so I must have looked a little crazy with my product brochure out, going between it and the stand. I’m just a little odd like that. It did get me most of what I wanted though, so I’m not complaining too much. I also poked around the other stands, liking the look of the NYC Color Rock Muse Smoky Top Coat. It’s red and glittery and wow.

Picked up, starting from top l-r:

  • Wet n Wild ColorIcon lip liner in Plumberry
  • Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Black Creme
  • Wet n Wild Fast Dry in Sage and the City
  • Wet n Wild Fast Dry in Gray’s Anatomy
  • NYC Color Rock Must Smoky Top Coat in Red Hot
  • Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Sugar Plum Fairy
  • Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Eggplant Frost
  • Wet n Wild Meglast Lipstick in Cherry Bomb
  • Wet n Wild ColorIcon Eyeshadow Trio in Silent Treatment
  • Wet n Wild ColorIcon glitter single eyeshadow in Binge
  • Wet n Wild Idol Eyes shadow pencil in Techno

Also from Penneys is a pair of exfoliating gloves. Just because they’re scrubby, body cleaningly good.

From Boots I got a set of Eyelure Naturalites super full lashes. Mainly because I had a load of receipts with Advantage Card points on, and didn’t want to queue up with just them. I’ve also only recently got the hang of lashes, so I chose to treat myself to some.

From the place of all interesting smells and colours and natural bath goodness that is Lush, I got three things, mostly not for me.

haul-brightsideFor me, I got the Brightside bubble bar. It smells gorgeous, looks like a 60’s tie-dye t-shirt, and should encourage me to make time for a bath (lock the bathroom door and to hell with everyone waiting).

For someone else, who should be receiving them next weekend, I got products that look like food. I got a bunch of carrots, which are soooo cute, and a French kiss, in all its floaty, meringue like glory. I now just need to figure out quirky packaging for them. Maybe I’ll plant the carrots, and serve the meringue with a plate of meringue. I’ll just need to put a flag on it saying don’t eat me. That wouldn’t end well.

Finally, I went in to Parfois on Mary St. I had stopped and looked in the window many times before, but never gone in. I’m not sure if I made a mistake by going in or not. There is so much loveliness in there. My old wallet has seen better days, and is starting to leech colour on to cards. Not a good look. I walked around the shop for a couple of minutes comparing wallets, before being stopped by a member of staff. She compared the tow I had in my hands with me, before asking me a couple of questions about how big I’d like my wallet to be, and recommending a cross between a wallet and a clutch.

And it was beautiful. It has space for everything and an elephant, and the member of staff was so friendly I had no problem with her upselling. And the upsell was only €2 from what I was going to buy, so it was all good. Even more, she went back and forth to the stock room 3 times to find one that had no marks or imperfections whatsoever. Customer service win right there. I may be back for more very soon.

What have you bought recently? Have I inspired you to buy anything from this post? You know what to do!

  • Shadow: Benefit – Powder Shadow (Purple Haze – from Eye Gotta palette)
  • Liner: Model Co – Eye liner pencil (01 – Black, free with April 2014 issue of Glamour)
  • Mascara: None
  • Lashes: Eyelure – Sex and the City lashes (Carrie)

I didn’t use mascara, and the false lashes added enough intensity, and it makes it easier for me to reuse them.

I think the whole thing fit together quite well for a vintage(ish) look. What do you think?

(Extremely Rare) FOTD, Just Because

FOTD-thAs a rule, I hate pictures of myself. They just never look nice enough to me. However, on rare occasions, I hit upon a good one. And in this case, I think it’s a really good one. That’s why I’m sharing an extremely rare FOTD with you, though at this stage it’s more like a Face of 2 days ago. Anyway, never mind that. Lets get on to the more interesting bit of products used.

  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lip brush (shape & definition)

Thinking about it, that’s quite a list for a doing nothing in particular face, but I like how it worked out.

Any thoughts? Anyone? Feel free to  tell me not to show my face on my blog again in the comments.

First Impressions: Wet n Wild Cosmetics

WnW-thUnless you’ve been living in a cave in the back o’ beyond, and the only tweets you’ve been getting have been from actual birds, you must have heard that US giant Wet n Wild are now available in Ireland. I’ve been trying out a few products and can now share my thoughts on them with you.

The Bright: ColorIcon Blush in Heather Silk:

wnw blush

For €4.49 this is so unbelieveably pigmented. You really need a light touch with this to avoid the dreaded Bosco cheeks! I did overcook it the first time, but had enough foundation left on my brush to tone it down a bit. Lucky me. This is not a good look, ever!

The Subtle: ColorIcon Bronzer in Ticket To Brazil:

wnw bronzer

This is subtle enough that you can use it without being scared of it. I’m normally scared of contouring in case it goes badly wrong with a dark colour, but I can use this one knowing it is subtle enough for me to practice with without making a mess of my face. Also, look at the size of that whopper, all for €4.99.

The Somewhat Disappointing: XXL Lash Mascara:

wnw mascara tube

I’ll be honest, after seeing good things about this mascara I was a little disappointed. It’s billedas a “thickening, amplifying mascara” but what I found was the formula was so wet it did nothing for me, and ended up everywhere but on my lashes. Maybe given a couple of weeks drying time it will be a bit better, but for now, it’s a no from me, even for €5.49.

The must go and buy: Megalast lipstick in Cherry Bomb:

I don’t have a picture of this, but I tried it on during the launch party, and it is amazing. Really gorgeous colour, and it lasts really well. Great for €2.99

Also on my shopping list is a few nail polishes. Having swatched a couple they really are gorgeously pigmented.

Speaking of nails. Here’s some cack-handed nail art I did for the launch night!

So, what do you think of Wet n Wild? What else should be on my shopping list? Let me know!
