Something Else Sunday: 50 Facts About Me

ses-me-thI was tagged by Amy (you know Amy, or if you don’t you should) from Red Lips; Red Hair to do this tag. It is very simple. It is 50 facts about me. A random 50 facts, as dredged up from my somewhat rambling mind. Some you may know, some you may not, but here goes.

  1. My name is Robyn Morton.
  2. I was meant to be born on Christmas Day, but arrived a week early.
  3. I have a twin brother.
  4. We’re both left handed.
  5. I was one of the last twins to be born in Loughlinstown hospital before their maternity unit closed.
  6. I am the middle child of seven. 3 sisters above, 3 brothers below.
  7. I have an eclectic taste in music, but prefer easy listening and female vocalists.
  8. I’ve only ever been to one concert (Flogging Molly, Kansas City, Feb 2008)
  9. It left me deaf for several hours after (was right next to a huge speaker)
  10. I’m currently (not very blissfully) single.
  11. I’ve only ever been in two relationships.
  12. Both were long distance (Copenhagen & Kansas City)
  13. If I continue in the long distance trend, I’ve calculated my next relationship will be between Dublin and the moon.
  14. I like to travel (hello, long distance relationships require lots of travel)
  15. 4,068.3 miles (as the crow flies) is the furthest I’ve ever travelled for a date, but the flight route taken made it so much longer.
  16. My US relationship led to me being stopped by CBP the first time I was over there, trying to figure out if I was a genuine visitor. I missed my connecting flight as a result.
  17. I was introduced to baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals as a result (go Redbirds!)
  18. I used to play softball, but had to give it up when it started affecting my knees.
  19. My favourite city in the world that I’ve visited (so far) is Copenhagen.
  20. If I was given the opportunity to move there, I would.
  21. I have a keen interest in aviation.
  22. I’ve taken control of a number of light aircraft, both here and in the US. All of which survived their encounters with me.
  23. I once did work experience as part of the overhaul crew working on a Ryanair jet (I was responsible for the emergency lighting system and pilots emergency oxygen supply)
  24. I was once offered and had an interview with Flybe for the position of an airline pilot (I didn’t get the job. The flight training school later closed down, taking a lot of students money)
  25. I can at best be considered a nail polish addict, and at worst a makeup addict.
  26. I don’t know how long I can keep going at dredging up these facts.
  27. I can disassemble and rebuild a computer with my eyes closed.
  28. At home, when people come to visit, I am “the one with the wifi password”
  29. Nobody has died from my cooking. There have been times when I’ve been the only one to eat something (I’d rather eat it myself then admit it went wrong) but for the most part, my cooking is okay.
  30. I enjoy making Mexican food, but can work with whatever is left in the fridge and cupboards.
  31. I’ll drink (nearly) anything, but do enjoy craft beers.
  32. I am not one of those pretentious craft beer snobs.
  33. I am still searching for the perfect mojito (closest I’ve found so far is on the cruise ship Norwegian Epic)
  34. I once flew to Spain and back in a day, never leaving the airport. I got off the plane, turned around and got back on the plane.
  35. I’d love to be a one tweet food critic. I’ve had lots of practice with my legendary hospital food pictures.
  36. I’ve eaten far too many dodgy hospital food meals. Really, I’ve spent far too long in hospital.
  37. I still need to get my life back on track after being unwell, but I am working on it.
  38. I am transgender.
  39. I came out in 2010 (after finally getting sick of hiding it).
  40. I am still part time (but do hope to change that).
  41. Some people have met, or do know of my male self, but this is who I am.
  42. Being trans doesn’t change who I am. I have always been me.
  43. I am naturally brunette, but have been anything from purply red, to really red, to currently nearly blonde.
  44. I have four tattoos. The first was a Celtic design on my lower back, a complete (but for a long time secret) act of self affirmation. The second was a heart on my right foot on the day I came out. The third is a breast cancer awareness ribbon on my right wrist/forearm, and the fourth is a butterfly and cherry blossoms on my left foot.
  45. Adding more tattoos, I would probably start with extending my butterfly and flowers onto my leg, though I am not necessarily a fan of big tattoos.
  46. I have my ears pierced (lobes) but have previously had my tragus, nostril and tongue pierced.
  47. I would get my nostril and tongue redone.
  48. Yes my life sounds complicated, and it is, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  49. My outlook on life has become more positive from being put in adverse situations.
  50. I look forward to my life settling back down into some routine, though adventure can be fun too!
  51. I couldn’t get through everything without the help of some very close friends. I owe them more then I could ever express in words.

There’s your 51. I hope it gives some insight into my weird and wonderful existence. If you want to share yours I encourage you to do so, but I am tagging two people:

Something Else Saturday: The Christmas Tag

ses-tree-thI’ve been tagged by two people to do the Christmas Tag, namely Amy from Red Lips;Red Hair, and Sam from All The Buzz. As I love these ladies so so much I really couldn’t say no. It’s very simple. There are 10 questions about Christmas, and I answer them. Easy peasy!

1. What is your favourite Christmas movie/s?

Usually, with so many people crowded into the house at Christmas, it is very difficult to watch anything, as someone else grabs the remote every 5 minutes. That said, I do like Die Hard (It’s set at Christmas, so it’s a Christmas movie) and I also enjoyed The Santa Clause & Home Alone when I was younger.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas eve or on Christmas morning?

Open presents on Christmas Eve?!?! HAHA they’re usually only being wrapped on Christmas Eve! That’s how organised I am! They never stay wrapped for long though, being opened again on Christmas Morning.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

As children, we would usually be awake at about 4.30 on Christmas Morning, inevitably waking up the grinchy uncle who had only gone to bed within the previous hour. Somehow we would occupy ourselves with Christmas Stockings for 60-90 minutes, while trying not to wake grinchy uncle (again) before waiting on the stairs for my dad to clean up reindeer droppings and eventually declare the sitting room open.

4. Favourite Christmas food

The Christmas Pudding, which is generally made in batches of 6 in the house. One is consumed when it is just made. One a couple of days later. Two more are sacrificed over the 25th and 26th, with another one around new year’s. One may survive long enough to be hidden and be left to mature in a bottle of whisky for a year, before being eaten. Yum!

5. Favourite Christmas gift

Being an almost Christmas baby (December 18th) I was very lucky to be given, as a combined 21st birthday/Christmas present from my parents, a ticket to the middle of the United States, so I could spend Valentine’s Day with my then girlfriend, who was 4,068 miles away.

6. Favourite Christmas scent

The combined smells of Christmas Pudding and my mum’s sage and onion sausagemeat stuffing cooking. It makes everyone gather in the kitchen, which is really too small to allow people to gather, so we are all promptly thrown out again.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Our Christmas Eve Tradition is very simple. Stay out of the kitchen, lest ye get smacked around the head with a wooden spoon. Aside from that, usually go and collect grinchy uncle from the airport (except for 2010, where I drew the short straw and had to drive through the snow to collect him from the ferryport. He’s a professional driver, while I had not long been in possession of my first car).

8. What tops your tree?

A bird box, but don’t tell Coillte. Seriously though, a star tops the tree. The same one that has done for about 2 decades now.

9. As a kid, what was the one extravagant gift you asked for but never got?

With so many kids in the house, extravagant was never an option. We never asked, and were never disappointed!

10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

A combination of the food, as I do really REALLY love excellent food (just ask my waistline), and the family getting along with each other for a while. Having everyone together, and happy is a great thing!

And there you have it, my Christmas Tag. Once again, thank you to Amy and Sam, and as I can’t think of anyone specific to tag that hasn’t already done it, I’m going to leave it open. If you like what you’ve seen, go for it!

Something Else Saturday: Top Ten Tag

top10-thYes I know it’s Sunday, but I was lazy and sore yesterday so you’ll just have to live with my slightly delayed Something Else Saturday post, as requested by Nicholle Bartlett, who two weeks ago tagged me to do the Top Ten Tag. If I have this right, there are 10 makeup categories, and I pick my top product from each. Seems simple enough, so lets get into the products!

Foundation – Max Factor Skin Luminizer

Since arriving on my desk this has become a firm favourite of mine. It is a great light shade, isn’t too sheer or too heavy, and lasts really well!

Concealer – Benefit Fake Up

This is great for use where there are spots or dark circles on my face (read: everywhere). It is hydrating, creamy, and works really well in connection with my foundation to even things up.

Powder – Benefit Hello Flawless

This could nearly be considered as another foundation, but I love layering it on top of foundations or BB creams as a setting powder. It has a little colour in it, mattifies and keeps my face in place FOREVER!

Blush – NYC Cheek Glow

Perfect for a sheer, buildable pop of colour, these really do add a glow to your cheeks.

Bronzer – Physicians formula Season to Season

It’s 4 shades of bronzer in one, all of which are lovely on their own or mixed. What more do you want?

Highlighter – MeMeMe Beat The Blues

Bigger, cheaper and possibly better than High Beam. Enough said!

Mascara – Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes

I got this during the Debenhams €10 offer and it is genuinely lovely. Maybe I don’t use it often enough though, as I am always looking for new products to slather on my face!

Eyeshadow – Sleek iDivine Palette Range

I have the limited edition Celestial palette here, but generally, just get your hands on as many of these babies as you can and be happy!

Brows – Maybelline Brow Drama

With this my *sigh* brows become WOWS in seconds. The medium brown shade I use is perfect for daytime wear, when I don’t want my brows to be over the top. Just brush it in and be done!

Lips – Wet n Wild Megalast Range

Specifically here I have Cherry Bomb and Sugar Plum Fairy, which I got before I knew they were dupes for MAC. Either way they are intensely pigmented and last so well. Cheap as chips too. Result :-)

And that’s my top 10. I think there is a good mix of budget and higher end products there, which shows that sometimes budget can be better.

Of course, this is a tag, so I tag:

What do you think of my choices? Agree or disagree or just think I am an idiot? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Something Else Saturday: The TMI Tag

SES-TMIthSo, I was tagged to do the TMI tag by Samantha from All The Buzz, and as it’s Something Else Saturday, I thought, sure, why not! If these aren’t your thing, stop reading is the best option, otherwise, carry on!

1: What are you wearing?

Jeans, t-shirt, sweater and thick wooly socks. Not going anywhere, so may as well be comfortable

2: Ever been in love?

Yes, on occasion. Was once in a long distance relationship for 5 years. Currently (not at all blissfully) single.

3: Ever had a terrible breakup?

We all have. Does it need to be asked?

4: How tall are you?

5′ 11″, more if wearing heels.

5: How much do you weigh?

Too much.

6: Any tattoos?

4. A breast cancer ribbon on my right wrist/forearm. A heart on my right foot. A butterfly and cherry blossoms on my left foot and a Celtic design on my lower back.

7: Any piercings?

Currently just my ears. Previously my tragus (the little flap of cartilage at the front of the ear), my nose and my tongue. The tragus came out when I lost the ball, and I had to take the nose and tongue out when I went into hospital, as they didn’t mix with procedures and machines. I’ll get my nose redone though.

8: OTP?

What does this even mean? I’ll come back to it.

9: Favourite show?

Love a bit of Criminal Minds. Or 30 Rock (Marry Me Liz Lemon!)

10: Favourite bands?

Not exactly a band kinda girl, but love Katie Melua, Vienna Teng, Sandi Thom, Ingrid Michaelson & Gin Wigmore (I’ve a thing for female vocalists)

11: Something you miss?

Working (damn unemployment)

12: Favourite song?

Depends on my mood. See favourite artists above. Or, when requesting something from a DJ, Take on Me or Karma Chameleon.

13: How old are you?

27 (Eek! I’m running out of 20’s)

14: Zodiac sign?

15: Quality you look for in a partner?

Bit cheesy, but soul-mate. Knowing you can be with them your whole life and never get sick of their presence.

16: Favourite Quote?

“There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path” – Morpheus, The Matrix.

Very true. You can know what needs to be done, but at the end of the day you’ve got to stop thinking about it and actually do it.

17: Favourite actor?

Tina Fey.

18: Favorite color?

Purple. Such a beautiful rich colour,

19: Loud music or soft?

Soft music usually, but my collection runs from ABBA to ZZ Top with too many stops in between.

20: Where do you go when you’re sad?

My room. If I’m feeling sad I tend to go and hide. I’d even hide from Twitter and Facebook if I’m really sad.

21: How long does it take you to shower?

From 5 minutes to 25 minutes depending on what I’m doing in there.

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

What’s a morning? Seriously though, excluding shower, anywhere from 30 – 90 minutes depending on just how respectable I need to look.

23: Ever been in a physical fight?

Yes, many times.

24: Turn on?

A great personality and a smile that lights up the persons face and the room. Something about it says being around them is a good thing.

25. Turn off?

Arrogance, cockiness and bitchiness to extremes. We can all be all of the above at times, but if that is your life, I go so cold so quickly.

26: The reason I started blogging?

I had 2 wordpress websites to manage in work, and needed to be a bit creative in writing, so it gave me a way to play without screwing up the work systems. Now I do it for the fun and distraction.

27: Fears?

Loneliness. I have no problem being alone, but I hate being lonely.

28: Last thing that made you cry?

Finding out my aunt had died. I didn’t cry, but did weep a bit.

29: Last time you said you loved someone?

Probably to Cat, more than likely on Twitter, certainly over something silly in the last 72 hours.

30: Meaning behind your blog name?

I’m Robyn. I rant and rave. What more meaning do you need.

31: Last book you read?

Harry Potter 1-7 in 5 days.

32: The book you’re currently reading?

Nineteen Eighty-Four. How very Orwellian life has become.

33: Last show you watched?

Watchdog. Boring daytime TV, but it was on while downstairs having coffee.

34: Last person you talked to?

My mum. We’re always here. We talk.

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted?

My dad, who at the time was on the way back from the airport. I was telling him to call when he was nearby and I’d put the kettle on. (Edit: Since drafting this and publishing it, change to Cat. Friend and bad influence, who was purring at cute guys on the bus)

36: Favourite food?

Pizza, or Mexican.

37: Place you want to visit?

Scandinavia. Norway, Sweden. Lovely places, with lovely people.

38: Last place you were?

39: Do you have a crush?

It would be wrong of me to not say Cat. Love you!

40: Last time you kissed someone?

That would be some time ago. I’ve actually forgotten when.

41: Last time you were insulted?

I actually can’t remember when. It’s good not having people in my life who would usually insult me.

42: Favourite flavour of sweet?

Caramel. Just give me caramel and nobody gets hurt.

43: What instruments do you play??

Eh… (computer) keyboard?

44: Favourite piece of jewellery?

I don’t really have a favourite, but I do have a couple of pieces with hearts which I love.

45: Last sport you played?

I used to play softball, but gave it up when my knees couldn’t take much more of crouching down on them (I was a catcher). I weighed more then than I do now.

46: Last song you sang?

I don’t sing and I don’t dance… while sober. Have been known to mime along with songs while in my room.

47: Favourite chat up line?

I don’t have one. Stems from being single for so long.

48: Have you ever used it?

49: Last time you hung out with anyone?

A couple of weeks ago at a blogger event. Me of the very inactive social life. (Edit: Her Party)

50: Who should answer these questions next?

I think this tag has been going around for a while, so I don’t know who has and hasn’t been tagged. If you’re reading it and  haven’t done it yet, it’s your turn.

8 (again): OTP?

Still nothing for this. You got 49 other answers, be content with them!

The Tag of All Knowledge

Waffle-150x142So, this is my first tag post, as I’m second in the chain behind blogger and all round great gal Amy from Red Lips Red Hair, and don’t want to kill the tag before it even starts. Called the tag of all knowledge, I hope it gives you some insight into the deep dark corner that I call my mind. (And while you’re in there would you mind dusting a little?) Without further ado, lets get into the questions!
