Face Friday: Five Product Face

ff-5product-thI am all for using a million different products and brushes to make amazingly complicated masterpieces from my makeup collection. It can be great fun experimenting. However, there are also times when I just want to get ready and go. And that’s where a look like this is so useful. It is literally just five products, and the most complicated tool you need is your finger.

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop n Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Shadow: Clinique – Chubby Stick For Eyes (10 – Big Blue)
  • Mascara: Wet n Wild – XXL Lash Mascara (Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Rimmel – Apocalips (301 – Galaxy)

Okay, this literally takes minutes to do, and almost everything is done with fingers (except for the mascara and lipstick). It doesn’t look overly special, but is put together and looks so much better than my bare face. Besides, I try not to look ready for a night out early in the day.

Manicure Monday: Peach & Silver Alternative French Mani

mm-french-thHello everyone, I’m back after taking a couple of weeks away from the blog, and as it is a Monday, that of course means it’s time for a mani. Today I’m going for something that is a little different to the standard French Mani, which while it looks classic, can look quite plain and well, boring. To change it up a bit I’m doing it in colour, using peach and silver.

mm-polishes

The polishes used for this are quite simple. The base colour is from the Rimmel Salon Pro by Kate range, and is shade 244 – Goddess. It is an ideal light summer shade for when you don’t want too much colour on your nails. The tips were done using a Sally Hansen Color Quick pen that I got in Dealz a couple of years ago. It is shade 01- Silver Chrome. Just to add something extra to the mani too, I took another of the Color Quick pens, 07 – Fuchsia Chrome, and did it on the ring finger with no tip. Application was a breeze, with a coat of CND Stickey basecoat, 3 of the base to build colour and smoothness, and 1 of the silver tips. It was then all sealed with a coat of Sally Hansen Double Duty topcoat.

As for how it looks on my nails? Lets take a look…

mm-nails

I did these on Thursday night, and only took pictures of them this afternoon (charge your camera batteries Robyn!) so there is a little bit of wear on them, but not much. Outside in the sun it does shine in a lovely way, and the silver tips just add to what is otherwise a flattering, but very simple mani. If the summery weather continues, I can see myself wearing something like this again. What do you think?

Face Friday: Summertime

face-summer-thWith the weather having been so warm over the past while, I’ve been trying to keep makeup to a minimum, trying to avoid it sweating and melting off my face (NEVER, ever a good look). For the most part, everything has been neutral, with a sheer colour pop on cheeks, and then a bold, bright lip. I think this fits the bill perfectly.

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Powder: Mary Kay – Sheer Dimensions Powder (Lace Coral)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop & Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Eyelid (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Browbone (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Liner: Physicians Formula – Shimmer Strips Kajal Liner (From brown eye trio)
  • Mascara: Rimmel – Scandaleyes by Kate Moss Mascara (005 – Eye Rocks Sapphire)

Lips:

  • Lipgloss: Shiseido – Lacquer Gloss (RD305 – Lust)

Brushes:

  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Blank Canvas – E32 – Liner (Lid)
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow Brush – Eyeshadow (Browbone, Blend between shadow & liner)

This look achieved what I was looking for, a minimalistic face, using nothing stronger than a tinted moisturiser and powder, with just enough colour to draw out the eyes and cheeks, then a vibrant lip.

Face Friday: Tropical Face

facce-thAfter not having a Face Friday last week I decided something must be done this week for it. For this, I’ve been working on a quite minimal face with a tropical theme. This means lots of corals are involved, along with some other light colours.

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Powder: Mary Kay – Sheer Dimensions Powder (Lace Coral)
  • Blush: Benefit – Cha Cha Tint
  • Blush: Benefit – Coralista

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: butter LONDON – Wink Cream Shadow – Lid (Sun Kiss)
  • Undereye: Shiseido – Sheer Eyezone Corrector (103 Natural)
  • Liner: Rimmel – SpecialEyes Mono Shadow – Used Wet (244 Moonstone)
  • Mascara: Mary Kay – Ultimate Mascara (Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Mary Kay – True Dimensions Lipstick (Color Me Coral)

Brushes:

  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blush
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Powder
  • Blank Canvas – E30 – Liner (Lid)
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow Brush – Eyeshadow (Blend between shadow & liner)
  • No. 7 – Lip Brush – Lipstick

I really like the minimalistic, yet colourful look that this creates. It’s also the first time that I’ve done a white liner, and while I don’t have an actual white liner, the wet shadow did a lovely job. I love how that turned out, and may have to invest in an actual liner for it.

Manicure Monday: Coral Two Ways

rimmel-thWith the weather pretending to be summery on and off for the past while, it would be wrong of me to not continue with summery colours. This week for Manicure Monday, I have two shades that are the same, but oh so different. From Rimmel’s Salon Pro by Kate range, I’m doing coral two ways.

rimmel-bottles

The polishes I’m looking at are both corals, but one is a pink coral, in this case shade 244 – Goddess, and an orange coral, 705 – Reggae Splash.

The Salon Pro line are formulated with Lycra, and offer up to 10 day wear with a gel like finish. The brush is thick and fairly wide, which fans out to cover the entire nail quite well, but I’d still tend to do my nails with the standard 3 swipe technique (centre, left, right – for those of you wondering).

I did find that the polishes require a bit of work to get a proper finish, and they are prone to smudging for the first while afterwards, so impatient ladies like myself really need not apply. If you do manage to sit for a while and do nothing it does dry to a lovely finish, and  for the most part looks very even. The orange one was a little patchy though. I’ll have to take a bit more time with it next time to see if it was just me working too quickly. I also haven’t done a proper wear  test yet, so I can’t say if the 10 day wear time is accurate.

As for how it looks? I’m actually very pleased with how Goddess turned out. I think it is the more wearable of the two colours, on fingers at least, while Reggae Splash may do better on my toes. What would really help it though, is a decent tan. I’ll have to sort hat out soon.

Have you tried any of the Rimmel Salon Pro by Kate range? What do you think of it, and which shades do you rate (I also have a purple, 444 – Seduce on my shelf ready to be tried)? The comment line is open.

FOTD-Thumb
Aug. 12.

My first, and possibly only FOTD

FOTD-ThumbFirst, a note: I am not that photogenic, specifically when it comes to self portraiture. I always find myself unhappy with how it looks, whether it’s the angle, lighting, or how many chins I appear to have. Therefore, make the most of this post, as it will be a while, if ever, before it’s repeated. So, if you want to continue, my first FOTD (Face Of The Day) is after the jump.

NOTD: Pink & Red Striped Mani

Stripe Manicure ThumbnailAfter seeing some pictures going round on Twitter (Karen from Lovely Girlie Bits has ones that spring to mind) I got around to thinking about a bit of nail art so simple, even I couldn’t mess it up. After all, it’s just nail polish & sticky tape. HOW HARD CAN IT BE?
