Face Friday: Feeling Summery

ff-summery-thHas anyone noticed that big ball of relative warmth in the sky? Yes, the sun is here for a little while, and to celebrate the country is losing the run of itself. Myself included to a certain extent, like with this creation, which went for a mix of pinks, corals and oranges, and coordinated with my dress, nails and mac, which I wore to an event in Inglot.

Face:

  • Foundation: Max Factor – Skin Luminizer Foundation (35 Light Ivory)
  • Blush: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Blush  (E832E – Heather Silk)
  • Powder: Benefit – Hello Flawless (Ivory)
  • Highlighter: Benefit – High Beam

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline– Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Primer: Makeup Revolution – Focus & Fix Primer (Brighten)
  • Shadow: NYC – Metro Quartet Shadow (797B – Gothic Harlem)
  • Liner: Cailyn Cosmetics – idefine Liquid Eyeliner
  • Mascara: Physicians Formula – Organic Wear Fakeout Mascara (the pink one)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Wet n Wild – Megalast Lipstick (E909B – Coral-ine)
  • Lipgloss: Kardashian Beauty – Tuesday Lipgloss (Orange Blossom Honey 321)

Brushes:

  • Cailyn Cosmetics – O! Wow Brush – Foundation
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – E23 – Shadow (crease)
  • Royal & Langnickel – Taklon Shader Brush – Shadow (lid, browbone & blend)
  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lips

Pinks and corals feel so summery to me, so I am happy to get a bit of a change from the deeper shades of winter. The lips turned out well, being coraly orange without being an over the top orange shade, which only some people can get right!

Face Friday: Ziaja Event Face

ff-ziaja-thYesterday evening I was lucky enough to attend an event in town, celebrating 25 years of Ziaja Skincare, along with some wonderful bloggers, customers and hosted by the amazing Emma of Mastering Your Makeup fame. Naturally I couldn’t go looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards, so I got myself tidied up, put on my face and off I went.

Face:

  • Foundation: Maybelline – Fit Me Foundation (125 Nude Beige) and SuperStay 24 Hour Foundation (020 – Cameo)The Fit Me decided to run out half way through my face, and the pump splattered foundation all over a white top. Had to go back with the superstay and blend it all together
  • Blush: NYC – Cheek Glow Blush (649 – Prospect Park Rose)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me Powder (125 – Nude Beige)

Eyes:

  • Brows: NYX – Brow Cake Powder (04 – Auburn/Red)
  • Undereye: Shiseido – Sheer Eye Zone Corrector (103 – Natural)
  • Primer: Makeup Revolution – Focus & Fix Primer (Brighten)
  • Shadow: Physicians Formula – Shimmer Strips Nude Palette (03 all over lid, 04 crease, 08 browbone, 09 inner corner) shades numbered from left to right of palette
  • Liner: Paese – Liquid Eyeliner
  • Mascara: Max Factor – Masterpiece Glamour Extensions Mascara

Lips:

  • Lipliner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Liner (E715 Plumberry) applied to outer part of lips
  • Lipliner: Revlon – Colorstay Liner (red) applied to inner part of lips
  • Lipstick: L’Oreal – Color Riche Collection Privee Reds (Blake’s Red)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – E23 – Shadow (crease & inner corner)
  • Royal & Langnickel – Taklon Shader Brush – Shadow (lid, browbone & blend)
  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lips

I tried to keep  lot of things neutral, letting the red lip do all the talking. I also tried to do the deeper shade around the edge of the lips to make them look fuller thing, but the lipstick is just so pigmented it didn’t do much. I love the red anyway, and will have to try again with a nude shade.

Face Friday: Magazine Inspired Red & Gold Christmas Look

ff-redgold-thLast week, while reading through a magazine, I saw two looks that combined elements of red & gold. It stuck with me, and I wondered if I could create something of a Christmas party look inspired by it. Well, I gave it a go, and the results are here for you today for Face Friday.

inspiration

Here are the looks that I drew inspiration from, which come from the December issue of Cosmopolitan. I was particularly taken by two elements, the gold eyes from the left, and the gold cupids bow and red lips on the right. It’s these elements that I wanted to combine into one look, so after scrubbing, cleansing, toning, moisturising and putting on a ton of lip balm, I went through my collection and took out the following to be used in creating the look:

Face:

  • Primer: Benefit – The Porefessional
  • Foundation: Max Factor – Skin Luminizer Foundation (40 – Light Ivory)
  • Blush: Benefit – Benetint
  • Blush: Benefit – Hervana
  • Highlighter: MeMeMe – Beat The Blues (Pearl Pink)
  • Contour: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Bronzer (E740 – Bikini Contest)
  • Powder: Benefit – Hello Flawless (Ivory)
  • Concealer: Benefit – FakeUp (01 – Light)

Eyes:

  • Brows: NYX – Eyebrow Cake Powder (04 – Auburn/Red)
  • Primer: Makeup Revolution – Focus + Fix Primer (Brighten)
  • Pigment: Barry M – Fine Glitter Dust (10 – Yellow Gold)
  • Shadow: Makeup Revolution – Awesome Eyeshadow Collection (Various Golds & Silver)
  • Liner: Paese – Liquid Eyeliner (Black)
  • Mascara: Physicians Formula – Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara (Fakeout)

Lips:

  • Lipliner: Revlon – Colorstay Liner (Red)
  • Lipstick: L’Oreal – Color Riche Lipstick (297 – Red Passion)
  • Gold Lip Line: Essence – Effect Eyeliner (02 – Gold Digger) topped with Barry M – Fine Glitter Dust (10 – Yellow Gold)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Real Techniques – Setting Brush – Blush (Apply/Blend)
  • Real Techniques – Pointed Foundation Brush – Apply Contour
  • Blank Canvas – F03 – Blend together blush/highlighter/contour
  • Blank Canvas – E24, E25, E32 – Shadows
  • Blank Canvas – E30 – Undereye shadow/comb lashes
  • Ecotools – Angled Liner Brush – Brows
  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lipstick
  • Emite Make Up – L312 – Pigment on upper lip line

That is quite a list of products and brushes to work through, but Christmas is a time for going all out. And to answer the question of what all of this gets you in the end, here it is:

lip

Now, I’ll freely admit I was a little forgetful, and forgot to do photos using flash, which is a pity, as it would really show off the eyes. The glitter pigment used will really make your eyes sparkle, and the combination of red and gold is a classic. The addition of silver in the corner of the eyes added another dimension to them, giving a bit more colour depth, while the mascara created great lashes without resorting to potentially over the top falsies. The only thing I am slightly concerned about is the gold along the top lip, which may have benefited from a liquid gold. I felt that in the minute amount I used, it was just slightly lacking. Not awful looking, but not stand out. I think that once I have somewhere to go that isn’t a hospital, I will be redoing this look and actually showing it off. In fact, I may just have the perfect matching manicure to show off for you on Monday.

What do you think of this look? Would you go for a gold lined lip, or should it be left to editorial makeup? And am I using enough glitter? The comments await!

Tried Tuesday: Physicians Formula Organic Wear Fakeout Mascara

mascara-thI always seem to have a (half) dozen or so mascaras on the go at any one time. They are different colours, different styles, different uses. Today I added another to that list, when I opened the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Fakeout Mascara. The question is, can it be love at first use. Today for Tried Tuesday, I am going to answer that.

tube

One of a variety of Organic Wear mascaras from Physicians Formula, they are all 100% natural origin for their ingredients, and offer different benefits depending on the version you pick up. As an added benefit, 1 of the ingredients are ingredients of organic origin. The particular version I have here is their pink Fakeout mascara, which contains natural origin fibers, which attach to your lashes and extend them, giving the appearance of false lashes, without having false lashes. It builds volume and length, and helps to retain lash curl.

brush

The brush is an interesting prospect. As you can see it is a big, thick brush, but the bristle density is very low, consisting of rubber bristles. It doesn’t look much, and looks like it would be difficult to apply mascara to every lash with it. You can also see some of the mascara formula on the brush, which doesn’t look wet and gloopy. It, in this photo at least, looks relatively dry.

A relatively dry mascara, with a low density rubber brush. Is this combination going to work at all? Well, below are three photos. The first is bare lashes. The second is after one coat, and the third is after two coats.

Bare lashes:

One Coat:

Two Coats:

2coats

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t even trying when I was applying this. It was literally done as an on the go job, with a tiny travel mirror in one hand and the brush in the other, and I am amazed at how well it turned out. My lashes look really defined, deeply coloured, and have lovely length. I am now thinking that with a little bit of time, care and another coat or two, just how much further can this go. I know I have only used this once, but I think it is the beginning of a long and joyous relationship.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Fakeout Mascara is €14.90 (RRP) and is available from selected pharmacies nationwide.

Face Friday: Summertime

face-summer-thWith the weather having been so warm over the past while, I’ve been trying to keep makeup to a minimum, trying to avoid it sweating and melting off my face (NEVER, ever a good look). For the most part, everything has been neutral, with a sheer colour pop on cheeks, and then a bold, bright lip. I think this fits the bill perfectly.

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Powder: Mary Kay – Sheer Dimensions Powder (Lace Coral)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop & Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Eyelid (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Browbone (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Liner: Physicians Formula – Shimmer Strips Kajal Liner (From brown eye trio)
  • Mascara: Rimmel – Scandaleyes by Kate Moss Mascara (005 – Eye Rocks Sapphire)

Lips:

  • Lipgloss: Shiseido – Lacquer Gloss (RD305 – Lust)

Brushes:

  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Blank Canvas – E32 – Liner (Lid)
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow Brush – Eyeshadow (Browbone, Blend between shadow & liner)

This look achieved what I was looking for, a minimalistic face, using nothing stronger than a tinted moisturiser and powder, with just enough colour to draw out the eyes and cheeks, then a vibrant lip.

Tried Tuesday: Physician’s Formula Season to Season Bronzer

bronzer-thSummer is a season for lighter makeup wherever possible. I try to avoid heavy foundations and powders in favour of tinted moisturisers, BB creams and lately this bronzing powder from Physician’s Formula.

season to season bronzer closed

Physician’s Formula are famous for their bronzers, and I’m currently using their Season to Season bronzer from the Bronze Booster Range. This one comes in a substantial compact with 7.7g of product, a mirror and a brush.

bronzer-brush

The brush is an interesting shape, but there is a good reason for it. You can use it to dust the powder across your whole face, or use the longer part of the brush for more precision placement of product for contouring, which I think is a really clever idea. Normally I will use a normal powder brush from my brush collection to apply this, so I haven’t actually used the brush.

bronzer-productAs for the product itself. It’s made up of 5 different shades, four shades marked for each season, Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall. There is also a small dot of golden colour in the centre. These shades are all subtly shimmery, not full on, but noticeable in the right light. The fact that there are a mix of shades means you can tailor what shade of bronzer you want to use, ranging from the most light in Winter to the most dark in Summer, with Spring and Fall being two different in between shades. Personally I’m liking just swirling my brush through all of the shades, rather than picking out any particular one.

bronzer-skin

I’m actually really loving this at the moment. It gives such a wonderful glow to the skin without being over the top. It can be as subtle or as strong as I like. that said, while the product is amazing, I’m slightly concerned by the build quality of the compact. It is substantial, but I have noticed that as I’m using it there is a certain amount of movement between the pan and the compact, and I fear what will happen if the bond between the two gives way. I guess I’ll have to be careful with it and see what happens.

Physician’s Formula Season to Season Bronzer is €19.90, and will be available in pharmacies nationwide.

pf-face-thIt’s Friday and that means it’s time for another face. This one is actually similar but more ramped up than last weeks face, which was more minimalistic, and was what I used to go to the launch of Physicians Formula on Wednesday evening. New Launches: Physicians Formula Comes To Ireland

stand of happinessIn June something amazing is happening. A US brand is coming to Ireland. A brand famous for its bronzers, powders, minerals, and for being natural. Finally, Physicians Formula is coming to Ireland.

Founded in 1937 by eminent Allergist Dr. Frank Crandall, solely to cope with his wife’s sensitive skin, Physicians Formula has grown into a megabrand, and has been credited with a number of firsts, including being the first company to create a line of hypo-allergenic makeup, the first to introduce SPF to makeup, and they develop over 50 new products each year! I was lucky enough to be invited to the press launch last night, and armed with my trusty camera, I can now show you some of the beauties that we have to look forward to!

For a brand that promises so much from its products, you would expect more high end prices, but prices range from €10.90 for the Eye Definer Felt Tip Eye Marker, to €20 for the Cashmere Wear Ultra-Smoothing Bronzer, and most products fall in to the €15-€18 price range. That gets even better when I say that the majority of the eyeliners are sold as a pack of 3 complimentary colours, which will cost you €16.90, or the equivalent of €5.63 each!

happyboosterblush

Some of my favourite items seen on the night include this Happy Booster blush, which, aside from looking amazing, contains mood boosting pheromones, to, well, make you feel happier. And seriously, how pretty is this? I heart it so much!

ph matchmaker gloss

Another brilliant idea comes from their PH Matchmaker range, in both their lipglosses and blush/bronzers. The blush and bronzer compacts have two tiny LED lights either side of the mirror, while the lipglosses have a mirror on the side of the tube, and a flashlight. No more trying to apply lipgloss in the back of a dark taxi!

sexy booster bronzer

Finally I have to point out the beauty of the packaging, which is just inspiring. Particularly look at this organic wear Mascara and Sexy Booster Bronzer (the shade of the bronzer didn’t come out right, but look at the gorgeousness of the lace and shoe!)

The rest of the pictures of the night are in the gallery below!
