Face Friday: Holyhead Face

ff-holyhead-thHaving been to Holyhead during the week, and knowing it would be a long day, I was looking for three things from my makeup for the day – that it would be simple to do (complicated and 5am do not mix), that it would look good, and that it would last. I think I got the right combination with this face.

ff-holyhead

Face:

  • Primer: Gosh – Velvet Touch Line Perfector
  • Foundation: Maybelline – Superstay 24 hour foundation (020 – Cameo)
  • Blush: New York Color – Cheek Glow Blush (649 – Prospect Park Rose)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me Powder (125 – Nude Beige)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Eyeshadow Trio (E380B – Walking On Eggshells)
  • Liner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Eyeliner Pencil (E655 – Charcoal)
  • Mascara: Lancome – Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (01 – Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Bourjois – Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick (05 – Ole Flamingo)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Ecotools – Powder Brush – Powder
  • Ecotools – Shadow Brush – Shadow (lid & browbone)
  • Real Techniques – Essential Crease Brush – Shadow (crease)

I can safely say that the look was long lasting, having lasted more than 18 hours with only minimal touch-ups. It was easy to do, which was great at 5am, and looked fresh and well put together, just what I wanted from the look.

Note: It must be said that this is a recreation of the look, not the look itself, again going back to the 5am thing.

Something Else Saturday: Purple Eye Makeup Look

SES-eyethumbBefore we begin I am required to include the following statement: I am not a makeup artist. I’m just a girl who loves to play with makeup. Before attempting anything you see here please consult a doctor, priest, solicitor, and psychiatrist. Robyn Rants and Raves can’t be held responsible for any loss of or damage to property or body parts. Always read the label.

Now that that’s out of the way, for Something Else Saturday I’m doing something that was requested by the delightful Karen of Beating Myself Into A Dress. She requested that I do an eye makeup tutorial, and being a glutton for punishment, here it is. I chose purple because, well, I love purple, and rich colours like this always work on a night out. Let’s begin!

Before: I prepped my face using Osiris Avise BB Cream, topped with Benefit Hello Flawless and Wet n Wild blush in Heather Silk. That’s not the important bit, as I’m focusing on the eyes.

Step 1: I did my brows using my trusty Maybelline Brow Drama in medium brown. A few strokes of this through the brows and they’re done.

Step 2: For an eyeshadow primer, I used the Wet n Wild Idol Eyes shadow stick in techno, covering the eyelid. It wouldn’t show through in the finished product, but the complimentary colour to the rest of the shadows would help.

Step 3: I took a Blank Canvas E25 brush, and my new Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Shadow in shade 73, and patted it onto the centre of the eyelid, and a little towards the outer corner of the eye.

Step 4: Using a Blank Canvas E32, I took Mac Trax eyeshadow, and applied it to the outer corner, partly covering the line over the Inglot pigment. I tidied up around the eye with a cotton bud.

Step 5: Using an Ecotools fluffy shadow brush, I applied Solar, from the Sleek iDivine Celestial palette to the inner corner, again slightly overlapping the Inglot.

Step 6: Using the same brush, and the Stargaze shadow from the Celestial palette I worked up to the brow bone.

After Steps 5 & 6

Step 7: With a Blank Canvas E23 brush, I applied Galactic, from the Celestial palette to the tear duct at the inner eye.

After Step 7

Step 8: Taking my Royal & Langnickel C260 Taklon shadow brush, I blended all of the shadows together, so there were no clear lines.

After Step 8

After Step 8

Step 9: For liner, I used a Sigma E05 liner brush to apply L’Oreal Gel Intenza liner in golden black on top and bottom, with a small flick at the end (I find this slightly easier to get the correct angle working from the lower lid.)

After Step 9

After Step 9

Step 10: I used an Eyeko eyelash curler to curl the lashes (free with the current issue of In Style Magazine – issue May 2014) and applied Benefit They’re Real Mascara. I then combed through the lashes slightly with a spoolie brush, and did the same with my brows.

After Step 10

After Step 10

Step 11 (optional): For extra oomph. I added strip lashes, these ones being Carrie from the Sex and the City by Eyelure range.

Finish: On my lips I added a coat of L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Privee nude by Eva, using a Blank Canvas L29 brush. And we’re done.

All Done

All Done

What do you think of the look? Is there anything you would do, or indeed do differently? Was this easy to follow, and should I leave this as a one off, or maybe do more? Please do le me know!

Robyn

Note: There is a video to accompany this, which will never see the light of day. It was used so I could just hold bits up to the camera, which I could watch back and make notes on afterwards.
