Something Else Sunday: Blogger Meet Up

ses-bloggermeetBloggers are known for being social creatures. We love getting together to have a coffee or a cocktail, a chat and to swap tales and favourites. Really, going to blogger meet ups is one great perk of the whole blogging thing. So, I was really happy to be able to attend a blogger meet up in Dublin yesterday, kindly and brilliantly organised by the amazing Anita of Anita’s Beauty Spot.

We found ourselves downstairs in Costa Coffee on College Green (yes there is a downstairs area) in what appears to be a cross between a cellar and a church. The lighting wasn’t great, but as it is a private room, it was a great place for us all to gather to see what was new, including the chance to have a look at a number of new products.

Among the new products and businesses on display were these Adoreabubbles Beauty Units, handmade by fellow blogger Sarah from Adoreabubbles. Being a fellow blogger and having far too much to keep organised, she has turned her idea into a small business, and was on hand to both chat and let us know about her business. I am really impressed by the idea of the nail polish stand, which holds up to 150 polishes. I have to seriously consider getting one, as at 140 polishes I have just maxed out my IKEA picture shelves.

New Nail Polishes from Paese

Martha from Paese

Speaking of polishes, we were treated to a visit from Martha, the founder of Paese Cosmetics, who was on hand to launch her new ranges of nail polish, a range of pastel shades (the blue she has on her nails is gorgeous, and a more neutral toned silk range. One of the silk range may just be making an appearance for Manicure Monday tomorrow!

It is great to see people who are so passionate about their products come to talk to us, including Jane from Mondss Underarm Wear. Inspired by a need and the fact that there was no product available that fit what she needed, she created a unique product and a business opportunity for herself, and was again on hand to let us know about it. It is a little difficult to explain the product without showing it to you (so it is on my list of things to review properly) but it is amazing to see the commitment that went in to taking the product from an idea to market.

Green Angel Skincare

One product range that I found delightful was the range from Green Angel Skincare, an Irish company that has won multiple awards for their natural products. It’s a pity I can’t transmit smells over the internet because these smell absolutely divine. I didn’t know it was possible to put so many deliciously scented products. I got to try out their award winning body scrub (on my hands anyway) and between the wake you up scent of zingy lemon, the way it really does work, and the moisturising oils, I couldn’t help but be impressed by it.

A small selection of the raffle prizes

Of course, at these meet ups, there is an element of charity involved, and yesterday was no different, with a raffle in aid of Console. The range of prizes on offer was exceptional. The generosity shown by the sponsors for the raffle prizes, or with little bits and pieces for goody bags was a sight to behold, and I really can’t say thank you enough to all those who supplied something (the list is as long as my arm)!

Sometimes I feel that we don’t get together to chat enough, so it was really enjoyable to spend an afternoon with other bloggers, and of course those who took time to chat about their businesses and products with us, so once again I should say thank you to Peter from Ziaja, Jane from Mondss, Martha from Paese, the commanding presence of Anne-Marie Gannon who made sure we were listening when we had to (and was most complimentary about my radio voice and professionalism with a camera – myself, my voice and my ancient Canon were very happy with that), Sarah from Adoreabubbles, Niabh from Green Angel, every blogger who was there (those who I got a chance to talk to and those I didn’t), and finally Anita (who made the whole day possible). I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Best of Beauty: Princess Product

ud-thWelcome to week 5 of the Best of Beauty challenge, as set by the Superb Sam from All the Buzz (Side note: Did you see her new logo? I did that :-)) We’ve had Skincare Saviours, Hair Heroes, Makeup Must-Haves and Pamper Products. Now it’s the turn of Princess Products. Y’know, that one high end product you just can’t live without.

Now, on this I must note, I don’t really have much by way of Princess Products, as I really can’t afford nor justify spending so much on high end when chemist brands do so much too. That said, I do occasionally treat myself. I have a Chanel nail polish. Benefit is one of my favourite brands. But, I’m not talking about either of these today. What I’m going to talk about is a palette. A palette of remarkable beauty and use. A palette that is one of many sisters, and has countless cousins. It is of course the Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay.

UD case

When I’m looking for a neutral eye, I can make it up from numerous single or duo shadows, my Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes Palette, or this beauty. And this is what I reach for time and time again, as it is just so versatile. 1 palette, too many combinations, that can be put together for any occasion, from day to night, office to party to bedroom. The fact that it also includes a brush is a bonus, as it then becomes a grab and go palette.

ud shadows

Okay, it’s €44 (or there about, depending on offers) but if you consider the fact that it’s for 12 shadows, brush, mini lipgloss and case it suddenly appears as great value for a truly exceptional palette.

So, do I have people reading this who love to get Naked? What are your Princess Products? Are you more of a cheap and cheerful girl? As always, the comments await!

Best of Beauty: Pamper Products

BOB-thWelcome to Week 4 of the Best of Beauty Series, organised by Samantha from All the Buzz, and the halfway point. Today we’re talking about pamper products. Those things we go for when we need a bit of me time.

Baths are a bit non-existent around here. We have a bath, but we never get time to actually use it, which is a bit of a pain. If you can get bath time, do, but aside from that check out my favourite pamper products!

The Fluffy Gown:

We all need one of these, and the fluffy pyjamas to go with it. Get them on, sit back and relax!

Netflix (or similar):

Gown? Check! Snacks? Check! Film or box set? Stick your favourite movie or TV show on, and you’re set for the next few hours. Excellent.

Face Mask:

Put on your favourite face mask, especially if your life is too hectic to do things any other time. I particularly like this Tea Tree one from Boots, which works very well with my skin, and gives you the peely offy bit at the end. Quite relaxing really!

Polish Box:

What better time to take care of the hard-working fingers and toes. Grab your polish box (this one’s mine) pick out your favourite colour, or colours and get creative!

What do you do for your pamper routine? What would you add to the list? I’d add wine or cocktails, but I can’t be seen to condone alcoholism. As always the comments await!

Best of Beauty: Makeup Must Have

makeup-thWelcome to Week 3 of the Best of Beauty Challenge, as organised by Sam from All The Buzz. We’ve already had our skincare saviours and hair heroes. This week we’re talking Makeup Must-Haves.

As a blogger, there is a simple answer to this…

(Note: It took 30 minutes of set up and 20 of clear up for this 1 shot. I must be bloody crazy!)

On the other hand, there’s a good chance you can’t have everything, in which case I’ll have to narrow it down a bit. Let’s blue sky this one (thinking outside the box in marketing jargon). My makeup must have is actually not makeup at all! (Gasp! Shock Horror!) It is…

The makeup brush! I’ll admit that for a while I didn’t believe in them, and I’ll also admit that I was a right idiot for thinking it. My makeup application has improved so much from having the right tools, and I can get better results from not as high end makeup, than from not using brushes. If you’re not using makeup brushes, stop reading, go outside and kick yourself up and down the street for such a mistake. Then come back and we’ll continue. I’ll wait for you…

Back? Good! Yes, I know makeup brushes are expensive, and you may no be willing to fork out a huge amount in 1 go. I agree completely. There is, however, no excuse for not slowly building a collection. Buy one or two, or a small set at a time. That way you are building up a collection, without a huge initial outlay, and they can be  called an investment, as if taken care of, they will last forever!

So, do you agree with me? What are your favourite brushes? (I love my Blank Canvas set by the way!) Let me know below in the comments!

Things to blog for: Inspirational bloggers

Inspirational Bloggers HeartI at times find it difficult to blog. If the inspiration is not there, I can’t make myself write. Fortunately I have gotten better over the past couple of weeks, and I put it down as being at least in part to reading blogs that inspire me. These are just some of the blogs that inspire me to write.
