Something Else Saturday: Makeup Revolution Haul

ses-revolution-thI was fortunate enough that on Friday the postman arrived with a package. Just a small package of bits from Makeup Revolution, the young gogetter company from England, who only recently celebrated their first birthday. As they had an offer on to celebrate, where if you spent £25 or more you got freebies worth £26, I felt it would be wrong not to try some bits and pieces. This is what arrived.

selection

The haul in all its glory

There’s only 17 items there. Not a lot really, but to make it easier to work through, I’m going to break it down into sections. We shall start with face products.

FACE:

Ultra All Day Prime & Anti-Shine Balm (£5):

Primer compact

I ran out of primer recently, so this was a good choice to try a different one. It is tidy, compact and comes with an applicator sponge.

Blushing Hearts Triple Baked Blusher – Blushing Heart (£4.99):

Seriously, how cute is this. I may never use it, it looks so adorable, but I do like how there are three shades included in it.

Vivid Blush Lacquer – O’ Boy (£1.99)

This is a liquid blush with a pump lid, but I will caution you now. Be gentle. This thing is seriously pigmented. I can still see some on my hand from where I touched it on the sheet I was using earlier.

LIPS:

Amazing Care Lipsticks – Electric Love & Love Pink! (£3):

These are glossy lipsticks with an inner colour core surrounded in an Argan Oil jelly outer. They look like you would have to reapply them often, but your lips would be super comfortable wearing them.

#Liphug – I think you’re amazing (£2.50):

A product named after its own hashtag! A mix of comfort, colour and staying power, it is probably not a shade I would have picked for myself, but I do love the name, and I think I’m amazing too!

Lip Power – Can’t Escape Me & Anticipate It (£3):

I do like rooting through my lip drawer for glosses to put on top of lipsticks, and here we have them perfectly matched up into one pack. There’s also two completely different shades here, a vibrant pink and a dark, almost vampy berry.

EYES:

I Heart Makeup Eye Primer – Matte (£2.99):

A large tube of the matte version of the I Heart Makeup Eye Primer. I find myself reaching for the Focus & Fix primer a lot lately, so it will be interesting to see how the two stablemates compare to each other.

Amazing Volume Mascara – Ultra Black (£2):

I’m always confused by products that come in black and beyond black (in this case ultra black) but I can see beyond that. It does also come in a waterproof version, and the brush looks quite nice. I am interested to see if it can do what it says!

Pure Pigments – Levity & Starless (£1):

Pigment Jars. Levity (l) Starless (r)

Swatches. Levity (l) Starless (r)

Swatches. Levity (l) Starless (r)

I already have one of these (a sparkly brown called Grandeur) and happily added Levity, the pinky purple to my basket. As part of the free gift I received the sparkly black, Starless, and… Another Levity. I am guessing the free gift packs were pre picked, and it is luck of the draw, but I am not complaining either way. When applied over a primer to give them something to cling to, these guys pack serious power.

Baked Eyeshadow – Electric Dreams (£2.50):

Baked Shadow Box

Swatching these was a little more difficult than some of the other shadows, mainly as the baking process leaves them a bit drier than normal, and then working dry onto a dry surface is awkward. There is a hint to how pigmented these are, and built onto a primer or worked wet, these could be beautiful! I am also giving away my love of purple here 😉

Palettes:

Here’s the piece de resistance! Three palettes that in most cases do almost everything, and the other is just too spectacular to include in the eye section. Starting with:

I Am Naked (£5.99):

6 neutral eyeshadows, and a nude lipstick, in 1 cute portable set. It’s all there, ready to go for whenever I want to get naked (stop sniggering, Cat ;-))

Go! To The City (£6.49):

6 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, and a highlighter. All pigmented, all colourful, and all ready to go!

Salvation Palette – Give Them Nightmares (£6):

12 shimmer shades and 6 matte, at 33p per shadow. That and, well look at it. How gorgeous is everything, EVERYTHING to do with this palette. Never mind nightmares, this is like my dream palette!

So, that is my haul. A lot of fun to be had with it, but tell me, what caught your eye out of everything here?

Note: While some products were free, they were a gift with purchase, and were not given for review consideration.

Face Friday: Ziaja Event Face

ff-ziaja-thYesterday evening I was lucky enough to attend an event in town, celebrating 25 years of Ziaja Skincare, along with some wonderful bloggers, customers and hosted by the amazing Emma of Mastering Your Makeup fame. Naturally I couldn’t go looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards, so I got myself tidied up, put on my face and off I went.

ziaja-eyesopenzizja-eyesclosed

Face:

  • Foundation: Maybelline – Fit Me Foundation (125 Nude Beige) and SuperStay 24 Hour Foundation (020 – Cameo)The Fit Me decided to run out half way through my face, and the pump splattered foundation all over a white top. Had to go back with the superstay and blend it all together
  • Blush: NYC – Cheek Glow Blush (649 – Prospect Park Rose)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me Powder (125 – Nude Beige)

Eyes:

  • Brows: NYX – Brow Cake Powder (04 – Auburn/Red)
  • Undereye: Shiseido – Sheer Eye Zone Corrector (103 – Natural)
  • Primer: Makeup Revolution – Focus & Fix Primer (Brighten)
  • Shadow: Physicians Formula – Shimmer Strips Nude Palette (03 all over lid, 04 crease, 08 browbone, 09 inner corner) shades numbered from left to right of palette
  • Liner: Paese – Liquid Eyeliner
  • Mascara: Max Factor – Masterpiece Glamour Extensions Mascara

Lips:

  • Lipliner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Liner (E715 Plumberry) applied to outer part of lips
  • Lipliner: Revlon – Colorstay Liner (red) applied to inner part of lips
  • Lipstick: L’Oreal – Color Riche Collection Privee Reds (Blake’s Red)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – E23 – Shadow (crease & inner corner)
  • Royal & Langnickel – Taklon Shader Brush – Shadow (lid, browbone & blend)
  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lips

I tried to keep  lot of things neutral, letting the red lip do all the talking. I also tried to do the deeper shade around the edge of the lips to make them look fuller thing, but the lipstick is just so pigmented it didn’t do much. I love the red anyway, and will have to try again with a nude shade.

Face Friday: Stargazer Eyes

ff-stargazer-thI did a post recently where I looked at the Undressed Palette from MUA, and I noted that I also had the Stargazer Palette to try out at some point. Well. I did eventually get a chance to give it a whirl for something, so today let me share with you a look I did with it.

stargazer-face

And, as the eyes are so important here, let’s have a close up of them.

stargazer-eyeopen

stargazer-eyeclosed

Face:

  • Foundation: Max Factor – Skin Luminizer Foundation (40 – Light Ivory)
  • Highlight: MeMeMe – Beat The Blues (Pearl Pink)
  • Blush: No.7 – Natural Blush (Soft Damson)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me Powder (125 – Nude Beige)
  • Concealer: Benefit – FakeUp (01 – Light)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Primer: MUA – Pro Base Eye Primer
  • Shadow: MUA – Stargazer Palette (Shades 1,2,9 & 12)
  • Liner: Maybelline – EyeStudio Lasting Drama Liner (10 – Ultra Violet)
  • Mascara: Benefit – They’re Real (Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: NYC – Cityproof Twistable (031 – Gramercy Park Plum)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush & Highlight
  • Blank Canvas – E23, E24, E25 – Shadows
  • Blank Canvas – E28 – Liner
  • Real Techniques – Angle Liner Brush – Undereye Shadow

A lot went into these eyes, but unfortunately I didn’t write down exactly what (my bad). Sometimes though, you just have to break out the colours, grab a brush and see where you end up. I think I ended up in a good place! Maybe a nude lip next time, but the intense/neutral rule is made to be broken :-)

Face Friday: Barely There

face-barelythere-thWhen I received Max Factor’s new Skin Luminizer Foundation, I wanted to create a look that minimised how many layers I was using on my face, to try and allow the foundation and my own skin to speak for themselves. Here is how it turned out.

face-barelythere

Face:

  • Foundation: Max Factor – Skin Luminizer Foundation (40 – Light Ivory)
  • Blush: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Blush (E832E – Heather Silk)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Primer: MUA – Pro Base Eye Primer
  • Shadow: MUA – Undressed Palette (Shades 3 & 4)
  • Mascara: Wet n Wild – XXL Lash Mascara (Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Revlon – Colorburst Matte Balm (225 – Sultry)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – E25 – Shadow

Keeping the look very minimalist on the skin and eyes allowed the lips to stand out, but I am really impressed by the finish of the skin, despite using so few products on it. It looks exceptionally well polished, without looking like there is a heavy coating on it. I’m impressed!

Face Friday: Holyhead Face

ff-holyhead-thHaving been to Holyhead during the week, and knowing it would be a long day, I was looking for three things from my makeup for the day – that it would be simple to do (complicated and 5am do not mix), that it would look good, and that it would last. I think I got the right combination with this face.

ff-holyhead

Face:

  • Primer: Gosh – Velvet Touch Line Perfector
  • Foundation: Maybelline – Superstay 24 hour foundation (020 – Cameo)
  • Blush: New York Color – Cheek Glow Blush (649 – Prospect Park Rose)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me Powder (125 – Nude Beige)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Eyeshadow Trio (E380B – Walking On Eggshells)
  • Liner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Eyeliner Pencil (E655 – Charcoal)
  • Mascara: Lancome – Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (01 – Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Bourjois – Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick (05 – Ole Flamingo)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Real Techniques – Buffing Brush – Blush
  • Ecotools – Powder Brush – Powder
  • Ecotools – Shadow Brush – Shadow (lid & browbone)
  • Real Techniques – Essential Crease Brush – Shadow (crease)

I can safely say that the look was long lasting, having lasted more than 18 hours with only minimal touch-ups. It was easy to do, which was great at 5am, and looked fresh and well put together, just what I wanted from the look.

Note: It must be said that this is a recreation of the look, not the look itself, again going back to the 5am thing.

Face Friday: Five Product Face

ff-5product-thI am all for using a million different products and brushes to make amazingly complicated masterpieces from my makeup collection. It can be great fun experimenting. However, there are also times when I just want to get ready and go. And that’s where a look like this is so useful. It is literally just five products, and the most complicated tool you need is your finger.

face-5product

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop n Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Shadow: Clinique – Chubby Stick For Eyes (10 – Big Blue)
  • Mascara: Wet n Wild – XXL Lash Mascara (Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: Rimmel – Apocalips (301 – Galaxy)

Okay, this literally takes minutes to do, and almost everything is done with fingers (except for the mascara and lipstick). It doesn’t look overly special, but is put together and looks so much better than my bare face. Besides, I try not to look ready for a night out early in the day.

Face Friday: Not Going Out Face

ff-goingout-thIt seems like forever since I’ve done any kind of going out makeup, and even though I’m not going out anywhere tonight, I decided that, for Face Friday today, to at least do some kind of going out makeup. Here you have the results.

face-goingoout

Face:

  • Foundation: Maybelline – Superstay 24h foundation (020 – Cameo)
  • Powder: Maybelline – Fit Me powder (125 – Nude Beige)
  • Blush: NYR Organic – Mineral Blusher (54 – Peony)
  • Contour: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Bronzer (E740 – Bikini Contest)
  • Highlight: MeMeMe – Beat The Blues (Pearl Pink)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: L’Oreal – Colour Infallible – Browbone (016 – Coconut Shake)
  • Shadow: L’Oreal – Colour Infallible – Lid (012 – Endless Chocolate)
  • Liner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Liner (E655 – Charcoal)
  • Mascara: Lancome – Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (01 – Black)

Lips:

  • Lipliner: Wet n Wild – Coloricon Lipliner (E715 – Plumberry)
  • Lipstick: Wet n Wild – Megalast Lipstick (E918D – Cherry Bomb)

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Real Techniques – Setting Brush – Contour (apply)
  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blending (Contour & Highlighter)
  • Blank Canvas – F03 – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow – Shadow (browbone & blend)
  • Blank Canvas – E24 Flat Shadow Brush – Shadow (lid)
  • Blank Canvas – Lip Brush L29 – Lipstick

This was a little involved to do,  but well worth it. My skin looks great, and I am in love with the super strong lip from the lipstick. Now, if only I had some place to go!

Face Friday: Classic as a Rose

ff-rose-thToday for Face Friday is a very simple face, that uses very few products and very few brushes. It also, though I didn’t realise it immediately, has two products that are both named “classic rose”.

ff-rose

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Powder: 17 – Loose Powder (Translucent)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop & Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Mascara: Rimmel – Scandaleyes by Kate Moss Mascara (004 – Eye Rocks Jet Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: No.7 – Stay Perfect Lipstick (Classic Rose)

Brushes:

  • Ecotools – Eyeshadow Brush – Shadow (lid & browbone)
  • Real Techniques – Essential Crease Brish – Shadow (crease)

Literally taking just minutes to do, I love how simple this look was to achieve, yet looked so well put together. That is really all you need for day to day,  nothing fancy, just something quick and good looking.

Face Friday: Metallic Eyes

ff-eyes-thOn Tuesday I was looking at the Sleek Eye Dust in Vintage, and was thinking that working with other metallic colours would be ideal for this, really making the eyes intense. So, for this slightly delayed Face Friday (I have a spot that refused to behave yesterday, ick) I decided to give it a go and see what I could do.

First up, let’s take a look at the products used:

products

Face:

  • Foundation: Maybelline – Fit Me Foundation (125 – Nude Beige)
  • Powder: Physicians Formula – Season to Season Bronzer, all over face (summer shade used as contour on nose)
  • Concealer: Benefit – FakeUp (Light)
  • Blush: Benefit – Hervana
  • Highlighter: MeMeMe – Beat The Blues (Pearl Pink)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Benefit – Brow Zings (Medium)
  • Shadow: Benefit – Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow – Base (Birthday Suit)
  • Shadow: Sleek – Eye Dust – Centre Lid (Vintage)
  • Shadow: Urban Decay – Naked 2 Palette – Inner Eye (Chopper)
  • Shadow: Urban Decay – Naked 2 Palette – Crease (YDK)
  • Shadow: Urban Decay – Naked 2 Palette – Outer Eye (Snakebite)
  • Shadow: Sleek – iDivine Celestial Palette – Browbone and tear duct (Galactic)
  • Liner: L’Oreal – Gel Intenza Liner (Golden Black)
  • Mascara: Lancome – Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (01 – Black)

Lips:

  • Lipstick: L’Oreal – Color Riche Collection Privee Nudes (Douzten’s Nude)
  • Lipgloss: Lancome – Juicy Tubes (shade unknown)

And the brushes. Yes, a lot of eye brushes were used for this.

brushes

Brushes:

  • Blank Canvas – F20 – Foundation
  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blush
  • Ecotools  – Powder Brush – Powder
  • Blank Canvas – F03 – Highlighter blend
  • Blank Canvas – E25 – Shadow (base)
  • Blank Canvas – E32 – Shadow (centre lid)
  • Blank Canvas – E24 – Shadow (inner lid)
  • Blank Canvas – E23 – Shadow (crease)
  • Real Techniques – Essential Crease Brush – Shadow (outer lid)
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow Brush – Shadow (Browbone, tear duct & final blend)
  • Real Techniques – Fine Liner Brush – Eyeliner
  • Blank Canvas – E30 (brush end) – Brows
  • Blank Canvas – L29 – Lips

And finally, let’s have a look at the finished product, both with and without flash.

Face without flash:

And with:

Eyes without flash:

And finally with:

eyes-flash

There is so much that I am happy with about this look. I really love the nude glossy lip, which looks nicely made up without taking anything from the eye, and the highlighter added to the glowing skin in all the right places. The eyes are the stars of the show though. I wanted them to be quite intense, so that they really stood out, and once I perfect the eyeliner flick, and practice smoky eyes a bit more, I think this will be a really spectacular look. What do you think?

Face Friday: Summertime

face-summer-thWith the weather having been so warm over the past while, I’ve been trying to keep makeup to a minimum, trying to avoid it sweating and melting off my face (NEVER, ever a good look). For the most part, everything has been neutral, with a sheer colour pop on cheeks, and then a bold, bright lip. I think this fits the bill perfectly.

face-summer

Face:

  • Tinted Moisturiser: MeMeMe – Flawless Tinted Moisturiser (02 – Beige Blush)
  • Powder: Mary Kay – Sheer Dimensions Powder (Lace Coral)
  • Blush: No.7 – Pop & Glow Cream Blush (Classic Rose)

Eyes:

  • Brows: Maybelline – Brow Drama (Medium Brown)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Eyelid (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Shadow: Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Shadow Trio – Browbone (Walking on Eggshells)
  • Liner: Physicians Formula – Shimmer Strips Kajal Liner (From brown eye trio)
  • Mascara: Rimmel – Scandaleyes by Kate Moss Mascara (005 – Eye Rocks Sapphire)

Lips:

  • Lipgloss: Shiseido – Lacquer Gloss (RD305 – Lust)

Brushes:

  • Real Techniques – Multi Task Brush – Blush
  • Blank Canvas – F16 – Powder
  • Blank Canvas – E32 – Liner (Lid)
  • Royal & Langnickel – C260 Taklon Shadow Brush – Eyeshadow (Browbone, Blend between shadow & liner)

This look achieved what I was looking for, a minimalistic face, using nothing stronger than a tinted moisturiser and powder, with just enough colour to draw out the eyes and cheeks, then a vibrant lip.
