New Launches: Physicians Formula Comes To Ireland

stand of happinessIn June something amazing is happening. A US brand is coming to Ireland. A brand famous for its bronzers, powders, minerals, and for being natural. Finally, Physicians Formula is coming to Ireland.

Founded in 1937 by eminent Allergist Dr. Frank Crandall, solely to cope with his wife’s sensitive skin, Physicians Formula has grown into a megabrand, and has been credited with a number of firsts, including being the first company to create a line of hypo-allergenic makeup, the first to introduce SPF to makeup, and they develop over 50 new products each year! I was lucky enough to be invited to the press launch last night, and armed with my trusty camera, I can now show you some of the beauties that we have to look forward to!

For a brand that promises so much from its products, you would expect more high end prices, but prices range from €10.90 for the Eye Definer Felt Tip Eye Marker, to €20 for the Cashmere Wear Ultra-Smoothing Bronzer, and most products fall in to the €15-€18 price range. That gets even better when I say that the majority of the eyeliners are sold as a pack of 3 complimentary colours, which will cost you €16.90, or the equivalent of €5.63 each!

Some of my favourite items seen on the night include this Happy Booster blush, which, aside from looking amazing, contains mood boosting pheromones, to, well, make you feel happier. And seriously, how pretty is this? I heart it so much!

ph matchmaker gloss

Another brilliant idea comes from their PH Matchmaker range, in both their lipglosses and blush/bronzers. The blush and bronzer compacts have two tiny LED lights either side of the mirror, while the lipglosses have a mirror on the side of the tube, and a flashlight. No more trying to apply lipgloss in the back of a dark taxi!

sexy booster bronzer

Finally I have to point out the beauty of the packaging, which is just inspiring. Particularly look at this organic wear Mascara and Sexy Booster Bronzer (the shade of the bronzer didn’t come out right, but look at the gorgeousness of the lace and shoe!)

Best of Beauty: Princess Product

ud-thWelcome to week 5 of the Best of Beauty challenge, as set by the Superb Sam from All the Buzz (Side note: Did you see her new logo? I did that :-)) We’ve had Skincare Saviours, Hair Heroes, Makeup Must-Haves and Pamper Products. Now it’s the turn of Princess Products. Y’know, that one high end product you just can’t live without.

Now, on this I must note, I don’t really have much by way of Princess Products, as I really can’t afford nor justify spending so much on high end when chemist brands do so much too. That said, I do occasionally treat myself. I have a Chanel nail polish. Benefit is one of my favourite brands. But, I’m not talking about either of these today. What I’m going to talk about is a palette. A palette of remarkable beauty and use. A palette that is one of many sisters, and has countless cousins. It is of course the Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay.

UD case

When I’m looking for a neutral eye, I can make it up from numerous single or duo shadows, my Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes Palette, or this beauty. And this is what I reach for time and time again, as it is just so versatile. 1 palette, too many combinations, that can be put together for any occasion, from day to night, office to party to bedroom. The fact that it also includes a brush is a bonus, as it then becomes a grab and go palette.

ud shadows

Okay, it’s €44 (or there about, depending on offers) but if you consider the fact that it’s for 12 shadows, brush, mini lipgloss and case it suddenly appears as great value for a truly exceptional palette.

So, do I have people reading this who love to get Naked? What are your Princess Products? Are you more of a cheap and cheerful girl? As always, the comments await!

Possibly My Ultimate Red Lip… Shiseido Lacquer Gloss

shiseido-thGather round boys and girls and let me tell you a tale. A tale of lips, and red, and trying to find the right match between the two. Now obviously, I can’t really change my lips that much, but I can find the right red to go with my lips as they are. And by golly, I think I’ve done just that.

How? With the little beauty that is one of Shiseido’s recently released new Lacquer Gloss shades, in this case “Lust” (RD305) which they describe as a sultry blood red. Sultry is right. I defy anyone to not be entranced by this colour! It is really amazing. The applicator holds a huge amount of product, and glides across lips. My instant reaction when it first hit my lips was to stop what I was doing and exclaim WOW! It was the deepest, glossiest red I have ever used, and feels super smooth and velvety on the lips.

shiseido applicator

And now, for those of you who are still reading this, you get to see it actually on my lips.

shiseido lips

The new shades are now on Shiseido counters and cost €25.

So, what do you think of the colour? Have you found your ultimate red? Let me know in the comments!

Best of Beauty: Pamper Products

BOB-thWelcome to Week 4 of the Best of Beauty Series, organised by Samantha from All the Buzz, and the halfway point. Today we’re talking about pamper products. Those things we go for when we need a bit of me time.

Baths are a bit non-existent around here. We have a bath, but we never get time to actually use it, which is a bit of a pain. If you can get bath time, do, but aside from that check out my favourite pamper products!

The Fluffy Gown:

We all need one of these, and the fluffy pyjamas to go with it. Get them on, sit back and relax!

Netflix (or similar):

Gown? Check! Snacks? Check! Film or box set? Stick your favourite movie or TV show on, and you’re set for the next few hours. Excellent.

Face Mask:

Put on your favourite face mask, especially if your life is too hectic to do things any other time. I particularly like this Tea Tree one from Boots, which works very well with my skin, and gives you the peely offy bit at the end. Quite relaxing really!

Polish Box:

What better time to take care of the hard-working fingers and toes. Grab your polish box (this one’s mine) pick out your favourite colour, or colours and get creative!

What do you do for your pamper routine? What would you add to the list? I’d add wine or cocktails, but I can’t be seen to condone alcoholism. As always the comments await!

Best of Beauty: Makeup Must Have

makeup-thWelcome to Week 3 of the Best of Beauty Challenge, as organised by Sam from All The Buzz. We’ve already had our skincare saviours and hair heroes. This week we’re talking Makeup Must-Haves.

As a blogger, there is a simple answer to this…

(Note: It took 30 minutes of set up and 20 of clear up for this 1 shot. I must be bloody crazy!)

On the other hand, there’s a good chance you can’t have everything, in which case I’ll have to narrow it down a bit. Let’s blue sky this one (thinking outside the box in marketing jargon). My makeup must have is actually not makeup at all! (Gasp! Shock Horror!) It is…

The makeup brush! I’ll admit that for a while I didn’t believe in them, and I’ll also admit that I was a right idiot for thinking it. My makeup application has improved so much from having the right tools, and I can get better results from not as high end makeup, than from not using brushes. If you’re not using makeup brushes, stop reading, go outside and kick yourself up and down the street for such a mistake. Then come back and we’ll continue. I’ll wait for you…

Back? Good! Yes, I know makeup brushes are expensive, and you may no be willing to fork out a huge amount in 1 go. I agree completely. There is, however, no excuse for not slowly building a collection. Buy one or two, or a small set at a time. That way you are building up a collection, without a huge initial outlay, and they can be  called an investment, as if taken care of, they will last forever!

So, do you agree with me? What are your favourite brushes? (I love my Blank Canvas set by the way!) Let me know below in the comments!

New Launches: Shiseido S/S ’14

shiseido-thI’ll be honest. This post is going to make you ooh and aah, and will probably give your bank manager a heart attack. Why? It’s the gorgeous new launches from Japanese beauty giant Shiseido. Ladies (and gentlemen) prepare to want, no, NEED, everything!

Shiseido know skincare, and they employ more than 1,100 scientists to research the way skin works, and how to use skins natural mechanisms in their products. The latest results of that research have led to:

Future Solutions LX Range:

  • Superior Radience Serum (30ml/€270)
  • Total Protective Emulsion (75ml/€290)
  • Total Regenerating Body Cream (200ml/€130)

Shiseido-FSLXThese are amazing. I’m particularly enamoured by the serum. A tiny dot on the back of my hand was more than enough to cover my hand, and it sank in instantly, leaving my hand looking so much brighter. Without going into all the science of it (Pearl Hybrid Complex and Skingenecell 1P in this case) it is  like liquid light for the skin. I’m going to have to start saving my pennies for this one.

Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask (12 pack/€63)

This is an update to the well known and unbelievably popular cult product, which now features stabilised pure retinol and Makruossi Extract, which works to replump the undereye area, reducing wrinkles, fine lines and dark circles. While some people use it as a once a month treat, it is safe to use up to 3 times a week.

IBUKI Starter Set (3x30ml/€29)

I’m really looking forward to trying this one out, and even the box wants me to try it out. It even told me!

A limited edition set containing 30 ml sizes of Cleanser, Softener and Moisturiser, it is designed to give you a 2 week to 1 month introduction to the world of Shiseido Skincare.

Face Colour Enhancing Trio (4 shades/€38 ea)

The great variety of shades available really allow this to work with any skin tone, even my pasty, pale Irish skin. Containing 3 complimentary shades in each compact, which act as a blush, sculpting colour and skin harmonising colour. These also have a subtle shimmer, to add a healthy glow. A really lovely product, I can see this one disappearing very quickly.

Lacquer Rouge & Lacquer Gloss (new shades) (€26/€25)

My personal favourites from all the makeup launches, I am really in love with these. They are both super pigmented, with the Lacquer Rouge offering a deeper hit of colour, while the Lacquer Gloss is like a lip gloss plus. I need more of these in my life!

Shimmering Cream Eye Colour (8 new shades) (€29)

These are water resistant, crease resistant, and last FOREVER. After swatching them on my hands they refused to move, until I scrubbed the life out of them before going to bed. They are some of the most gorgeous cream shadows I have ever come across, and with the colours being so intense, you’ll be noticed.

Sheer Eye Zone Corrector ( 3 shades) (€30)

These at first glance look like the very familiar Touche Eclat in function, but with these the trick is to go for the one that loooks orange on your skin, as the boffins in Shiseido have discovered that everyone as they age lose red and yellow pigments from their under eye area. This puts them back in, and helps to disguise fine lines. You can also pick up the one that looks the lightest on your skin, to add highlight and radience.

Sun Care UV Protective Compact Foundation & Liquid Foundation (3 shades each) (€39) – not pictured

These foundations are perfect for holidays, as they both contain SPF30. Depending on whether you want a matte or more dewy finish you choose the compact or liquid finish. They also DO NOT MOVE! Get them wet, swim, sunbathe, whatever you need to do and it stays on your face! Result!

Perfect Hydrating BB Cream (new light shade)  (€38) – not pictured

This is definitely a “my skin but better” product, and the light shade should be excellent for most Irish skintones. It also contains SPF30 (woo!) and provides added skincare protection!

Zen Sun EdT for men, and for women (50ml/€63)

The fragrance for men is a wonderfully fresh crisp fragrance. The fragrance for women is the perfect sweet fragrance for those who hate sweet fragrances. I despise the usual, sickly sweet, sweet fragrances, but after getting one sniff of this, I MUST HAVE it. That’s the best way I can put it. I’m not really one for perfume descriptions.

For Men:

Total Revitaliser Eye (15ml/€54) – no pictured

For the man who keeps raiding your supplies, make him buy his own. This is really rich but spreads and sinks in so well. It is also  encased in sleek black packaging, so it looks perfectly masculine, and therefore ideal for the man who doesn’t want to be caught using “girly” products.

These wonderful goodies are on counter between now and May, including the new Shiseido counter in Harvey Nichols, Dundrum.

I also have some of them to try out and will be reporting back in good time to let you know how I got on.

What jumps out at you? Are you regretting reading this far? How’s your bank balance feeling? Let me know in the comments!

Best of Beauty: Hair Heroes

haircare-thWelcome to week 2 of the Best of Beauty series, organised by the amazing Sam from All the Buzz (love you Sam!) Last week was skincare saviours. Now it’s time for those things my hair couldn’t live without – my hair heroes!

Charles Worthington Full Volume Range: Shampoo (Not pictured), Conditioner, Texturising Spray:

Originally recommended to me by Paula of Cornflakegirls Musings, these are my go to products for every other day use. They add great volume to my otherwise fine hair, without weighing my hair down. Sadly I’ve run out of the shampoo and am almmost out of the conditioner, so I am on the lookout for them. They seem to have disappeared from the couple of Boots nearest to me.

L’Oreal Professionel Spiral Splendour Curl Setting Cream:

My hairdresser always uses this on my hair, as there is no point in blowdrying my hair straight. Once it gets wet it goes back to its usual frizzy self. This sets the curls into place, leaving them looking great. At home I run a little bit of this through sections of hair, scrunch the hair up, then hit it with the hairdryer. Great curls in minutes!

Honourable Mention:

Mane ‘n Tail Shampoo & Conditioner:

Yes, I know this is a free sample package of the Mane ‘n Tail. I find these great for when you’ll be away for a couple of days, as they take up no space at all. They saved my hair when I was in hospital. I’m so happy with these, that I think I will be buying full versions of them in the near future. Great stuff.

So, what do you think? Have you tried any of these, and would you recommend them? As always, the comments await!

Best of Beauty: Skincare Saviours

Vichy-thHi, and welcome to the first of my Best of Beauty series, devised by the gorgeous, intelligent, kind, totally awesome, but sadly not single, Sam from All the Buzz. Every Thursday I will be sharing my Best of Beauty, starting today with week 1, and my skincare saviours.

My skin is a combination of normal to dry, so at times it does need a bit of help, but at the same time I don’t want to use anything too harsh on it, as that will just make things worse. These little beauties are just the ticket.

On the face:

You’ll see I have much love for Vichy products here. They are not overly expensive, are very effective, and most of all are gentle on my skin. In fact, all of these are due for repurchase soon, as they are all just about out.

Vichy Idealia Cream (€26/50ml – / I use this day and night, and my skin laps it up. It smells great too thanks to the Kombucha tea extract.

Vichy Purete Thermale One Step Cleanser (€13.95/200ml – I find this to be a more heavy duty cleanser than the Micellar Solution below, but is still very gentle. It is also great for taking off even the most stubborn eye makeup.

Vichy Purete Thermale Micellar Solution (€13.95/200ml – This is a great day to day cleanser. It is very light, and still quite powerful. It is more suited to day to day makeup, but even using it around the eyes it does not cause irritation, unless you’re pouring in serious amounts.

On the Body:

Not everything has to be upmarket. These next two are cheap as chips, and are HUGE! Seriously, look at the size of them! They’ll go on forever!

Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff (€7.99/200ml – The pink scrubby exfoliatey one. You don’t really need to use this one all over that often, but on areas that are known to suffer from slightly harder, tougher skin, a little bit of this will soon have it back in shape. It’s followed up by…

Cocoa Brown Chocolate Whip (€7.99/200ml – The chocolately, flowery, skin softener supreme. This smells gorgeous, soaks in super easily and punches far above what it’s price would have you think. If you haven’t heard of these yet, what rock have you been living under? Get out from there and get them NOW!

Honourable Mentions:

I haven’t included these above as they’re not things I would use every day, but if you’re looking for a bit of a skincare treat, these are worth considering.

Benefit B.Right Refined Finish Facial Polish (€27.50/127.5g – I love using this once a week to help clear away any build up of dead skin cells. It’s super gentle, a little bit goes a long way, and I love the packaging. It is not the cheapest out there, but it does a great job for the price.

Benefit B.Right Ultra Radiance Facial Rehydrating Mist (€30/133.1ml – Work in an office? Feel yourself drying out from heat in summer and heaters in winter. This is the thing for you. I originally bought this in duty free in Gatwick as I was trapped indoors for hours and was drying out rapidly. Fortunately this did an amazing job, and I now swear by it. I’m not using it as often while I’m not working, but I always appreciate a moisture boost when I do turn to it. Its light fresh scent is pleasing on the nose too!

So, talk to me. Do you agree with my saviours? Does it inspire you to try any of them? Have you tried any of them already? Let me know in the comments!

I Admit It: I’m a Polishaholic

Mani-ThumbHi everyone! My name’s Robyn, and I’m a polishaholic! (cue polite applause)

It all started many years ago. I got distracted by some shiny colours while in boots and it all snowballed from there. I got sucked in, and just can’t break my habit of looking at shiny shiny polish and saying those dreaded words that we all know: “I want it. No, I MUST HAVE it!”

Shopping the Sales

jewellery_thOkay, I’ll be honest. I’m not one to go mad for the sales. You will never find me camped outside Brown Thomas overnight to be first in line on the 26th. It’s just not who I am. I will, however, go in a couple of days later, not looking for anything in particular, and pick up whatever it is I pick up. Being pretty poor this time round meant I was not going looking for designer gems, but did pick up a couple of bits and pieces, mainly from New Look and Penneys, and spurred on by Kathleen from Squidgy Moments sharing her finds on Twitter (love you my Amazingly Crazy Minion x) decided I should share them with you.
