Manicure Monday: OPI – Big Apple Red

opi-thOkay, I know this is a red nail polish two weeks in a row, and normally I wouldn’t be doing that, but I am on a bit of a red kick at the moment, and with this polish can you really blame me? This week, for Manicure Monday, I’m looking at OPI’s Big Apple Red.

I actually picked this one up in Duty Free in Gatwick Airport last year, and have been wearing it on and off. Being one of the later OPI polishes, it is made using their 3-free formula, that being there is no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP in the formula. The brush itself isn’t all too thick, but is really nice to use, with the textured feel of the lid being quite grippy and allowing you to place the polish well. The polish also came up opaque in just 2 coats, which is ideal if you’re going to be in a hurry. I was when I did these, and with a fast drying top coat (I used CND’s Air Dry) were ready to go in minutes.

To change things up a bit, and to add a bit of sparkle to the nails, I then added a single coat of Ruby Pumps by China Glaze to the ring finger. In the right light the glitter shines beautifully.

And as always, you get to see my handywork. This is shown both with and without flash on a hand that has been working with this polish since late last week, so please excuse the little bit of damage to them.

I actually quite like how this turned out. The polish is hard wearing under the top coat, and has a delightfully shiny finish, great for sunny days. I’m just thinking of other combinations I can put it in to in the future.
