Tested Thursday: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

tt-bourjois-thOn a recent post about the Wet n Wild Megalast liquid lipstick, there was a lot of love for the new offering from Bourjois, their Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick. Being the magpie that I am, I promptly bought one when I was in Boots the next day, and now have some thoughts to share on it. Please do read on.

The shade I picked up was 05 – Olé Flamingo, a bright pink. As much as I love my reds and deeper colours, I have enough reds (for now, not outright) and darks and summer just don’t go. This really works for summer. The packaging is, well, nothing to write home about. It’s a slightly rounded square, clear tube, with a colour co-ordinated lid. Nothing fancy, but very solid. Not much to say about it, really.

Inside the lid is a doefoot wand applicator, which is comfortable, soft and holds a perfectly suitable amount of product. It is as simple as 1 dip, 1 lip, 1 coat. No messing about trying to get enough product to work with. It also glides on to the lips beautifully, feeling rather creamy. Creamy lipsticks tend to be short lived though, right?

Wrong. Here it is when I applied it at about 4pm yesterday, before going out to an event. About 7 hours later, after chats, eats, drinks, more chats and dinner, it was still there. There was some wear on the top lip, but the bottom lip was nearly perfect. That means we have a lipstick that looks good, feels creamy, dries matte, lasts and doesn’t dry out the lips. Well done Bourjois!

What do you think of Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks? What other shades should I be buying? The comments await!

Wow what a bright shade! Looks great, I really need to try be braver with lip colours

    • It’s summer. I can’t do dark colours. Maybe try something in the same colour range, but not as out there. Work your way up!

  • I have been trying to resist these as I am still on my ‘I need to use the makeup I have before buying more’ kick (been going on two years now, although I did cave and buy some of the Rimmel Apocalips when they came out last year), but they look so gorgeous I may not be able to resist them much longer.

Go on, talk to me. I don't bite!
