Shopping the Sales

jewellery_thOkay, I’ll be honest. I’m not one to go mad for the sales. You will never find me camped outside Brown Thomas overnight to be first in line on the 26th. It’s just not who I am. I will, however, go in a couple of days later, not looking for anything in particular, and pick up whatever it is I pick up. Being pretty poor this time round meant I was not going looking for designer gems, but did pick up a couple of bits and pieces, mainly from New Look and Penneys, and spurred on by Kathleen from Squidgy Moments sharing her finds on Twitter (love you my Amazingly Crazy Minion x) decided I should share them with you.

New Look Black Dress: €15 / €10

I love this dress because it is so simple and therefore so versatile. Yes, it is sleeveless, which I am not a great fan of, but in winter I can add a long sleeve tee under it, probably in plain white, and in summer I am more likely to wear it sleeveless, as I look more forgivingly on my arms in summer. I can see this paired with big statement jewellery, and a pair of killer heels.

Penneys Red Poppy Print Dress: €15 / €7

This really is more of a summer dress to me, butt the warmer weather is getting closer (I certainly hope it is) so it shouldn’t be too long in the wardrobe before it gets to make an appearance. A least I can throw on a pair of leggings under it for warmth if I want to break it out sooner. I don’t think this needs much by way of accessories because of the nice bright colour really, so the dress can speak for itself.

Penneys Gold Print Black Dress: €13 / €9

This dress, and the next one (just so I’m not repeating myself) are not really daytime dresses. I bought them with getting dressed up and going partying in mind, something which I have not done in a long time. (Note to people: We have to go out for drinks at some point – soon) It was the design of this one that caught my eye. It is not your common or garden black dress. It has that little bit extra. I wouldn’t go for much neckwear with this dress, instead opting for something more on my wrists.

Penneys White/Black Embellished Cutout Dress: €19 / €9

At first when I bought this dress, I wasn’t aware of the cutout panels on the sides. If I was, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. But now that I have it, I’m determined to make it work. I think what it needs is is a lovely deep tan to go with the white top (hello Cocoa Brown), a gorgeous red lip, and a smile.

Penneys Black Skirt: €10 / €5

Okay, there’s not much to say about this. It’s a simple black skirt. I think there should be one in every wardrobe though, both for work (whenever I get back to work, that is) and because it can be dressed up with an awesome top for going out. Enough said!

Penneys Stone Coloured Coat: €35 / €15

I have a couple of coats that are great for summer or if it’s raining, but I don’t have a winter coat for with a little length for when it’s Baltic out there. That’s why this one is handy to have. Yes it looks a bit tentish, but I have the added difficulty of being both fairly large and top heavy, so I have to work with what I’ve got. Add a pair of gloves and a scarf to it and I’ll be super toasty in there.

New Look/Roam Earrings & Necklace: €5.85 / €2.92 ea , €7.80 / €3.60

They’re hearts, they’re sparkly and I heart them. At that price I couldn’t exactly leave them there, and New Look are great for jewellery pieces as is.

Boots No.7 Nail Polish Set: €13 / €6.50

Of the not great selection that was still in Boots Dun Laoghaire I got this. 5 full size nail polishes (well 2 polishes and 3 top coats) for €6.50? Happy Christmas to me :-)

Magppie Furo Teapot €80 / €15 / €7.50 / €2

Now, this is an interesting one. The label on the box had the price originally at €15, then down to €7.50, then down to €2. Fair enough, I’ll have that. It was only when looking at it online later that I came across a Swiss designer website that had the exact same teapot listed for 99 CHF (about €80.50) Taking it at that price I got a discount of 97.5%!! Robyn 1 – Sales 0.

Did you find anything interesting in the sales? How would you style my purchases? (This is my first time talking about clothes, so feel free to call me an idiot) Can you beat my 97.5%? To the comments!

  • The clothes are brilliant, and the jewellery – but I’m really excited about the teapot!!! Amazing bargain, I love finding bargains like that. I haven’t done any sale shopping at all this year, I bought so much in December that I’m all shopped out. Had a quick look in our local Penneys yesterday and the sale rails were terrible! Might venture out to New Look soon :) Great post and welcome back x

    • Gotta love the teapot. Would have bought the milk jug and sugar dispenser too but I ran out of non plastic money :-)

If the twins give you a break have a look around and see what you can pick up!
