I Admit It: I’m a Polishaholic

Mani-ThumbHi everyone! My name’s Robyn, and I’m a polishaholic! (cue polite applause)

It all started many years ago. I got distracted by some shiny colours while in boots and it all snowballed from there. I got sucked in, and just can’t break my habit of looking at shiny shiny polish and saying those dreaded words that we all know: “I want it. No, I MUST HAVE it!”

So far I have amassed a terrible 84 (Update: 91) different polishes. I know I only have 10 fingers and 10 toes, but I just can’t help myself. I have cheap ones and expensive ones. I have cremes, shimmers and glitters. I have sets. I have ones that look oh so similar to the untrained eye, but which are really slightly different finishes, and besides, they’re different brands, so I’m allowed both in my stash, right?

Now I find myself with a problem. I can’t decide what to do with my addiction. Is 84 enough, or should I be striving to break 100 and beyond. I know some brands are sadly missing from my stash (Hello Essie, Butter London and Deborah Lippmann to name a few – not trying to be my own enabler) and I could do with some more colours, for example yellows. So, I’m asking you to help me out. I’ve added a new page to the blog, called, aptly, my “Nail Polish Stash“. I want you to go through what I have. Rummage around. Poke into the corners, and if you find something interesting, ask me to swatch it. I will get around to photographing bottles and swatches, but I want to do what you want to see first! While you’re there, let me know, do you think I have enough polishes, or give me a shopping list. Let me know what else I need. I promise to keep the list up  to date as I add new ones to the stash (it took me 2 months to catalog the first batch – but I was sick for some time in the middle) to allow you to see my progress.

So, to the comments. Praise me for my collection. Punish me for being a hopeless addict. Set me on the path to 100 with more to add to my shopping list. Readers it’s over to you!

  • Pah, you only have 84! Try 250! And I know others have more, like Sharon from Behind Green Eyes. Seriously though, I’ve been thinking of cutting mine down a bit, I must go through mine and take out some of the ones I don’t want and maybe give them to my sister. I should have actually done that before I moved really! (Logic, I don’t have it).

    • I know! I fail at being a polish magpie, but I’m trying to get better. I appreciate all help you can give in this matter :-) (Self control, I have a little of it)

  • I’d love to see a swatch of China Glaze Red-y and Willing if you wouldn’t mind :)

    • You got it. I’ll get it on my nails again tomorrow. Really should have properly photographed it the first time round :-)

  • At least you know how many you have Robyn! And no, 84 isn’t too much. There is no such thing as too much when it comes to polish…!! Xx

  • I don’t think 84 polishes is too much for a nail polish lover to own. :) Sure, I have 25 bottles sitting on my dressing table despite the fact that I haven’t worn nail polish in over 18 months as my nails are ridiculously weak. I found new homes for the rest of my polishes because I knew I wouldn’t use them, but for some reason I couldn’t part with these 25 shades!

    • See, even those who don’t wear nail polish hoard bottles. You need to get your nails stronger though. So many people swear by nail envy from OPI. Haven’t tried it myself, but have a look.

      • I think OPI’s Nail Envy may be one of the few things I haven’t tried so I must check it out at some point.

        • Nail envy is great, it’s always worked for me. If you want it, get it from Amazon as it can be half price. Another thing that keeps my nails strong is cuticle oil. Again, you don’t have to spend loads, I use jojoba oil as it sinks in really quickly and it’s much cheaper than OPI Avoplex xx

          • Thanks for the Amazon tip, I wouldn’t have thought to check there. I love using cuticle oils, but on their own they are just not strong enough to deal with my nails at the moment.

        • Check out this bloggy review from CherrySue. I think she found the holy grail with it. Nail Envy Review

  • 84 is a great start! 😉 It’s a habit that tends to get pretty out of control very quickly, I had less than 20 this time 3 years ago, now it’s slowly heading towards 400 and I can’t even paint my nails at the moment because the babies are teething and like to chew my fingers! Ludicrous. I think Butter London are beautiful but not worth the money, Essie are great, a really good all-round brand, and I only have one Deborah Lippmann, also really expensive but a lovely treat. Favourite brand China Glaze by a mile, their mini polishes are also great value and a great size. OPI minis are overpriced and too small, and you need to try some Barry M and Paese! I would love to see a swatch of Bourjois #14 whenever you get a chance x

    • I think the BL bottles look so stylish, to have even 1 in my collection would be lovely. Essie are well priced and so much more available now that they’re not Salon only. Deborah Lippmann I will keep an eye out in TK Maxx for, as they sometimes turn up there. China Glaze are awesome. One of my favourite polishes is Ruby Pumps. The Opi ones are quite nice. I got 5 of them from Adoreabubbles when she was selling off some things. I’ll add Barry M and Paese too my list, and I will take care of a swatch of the Bourjois for you, but IIRC it works better as a topcoat over other colours.

Oh, and I will eventually catch up to your 400. Just give me a while to do so 😉
